Summary: The Butterfly Habitat Curator provides care for the plants and butterflies inside
Lost River Cave’s Butterfly Habitat while educating guests about the plants and butterflies. This
position is also responsible for maintaining landscape outside the habitat.
Essential Responsibilities:
Planting and up keep of currently planted pollinator garden inside the habitat and the introductory garden
outside the habitat; includes choosing plants
Maintenance (such as wedding, dead removal, feeding, and replanting) of the garden throughout the
season
Directly and effectively communicates with Property Manager to support the overall needs of Butterflies.
Helps implement trainings for volunteers as well as supervises volunteers within the butterfly house.
Works collaboratively with staff and volunteers, problem solves and communicates within the team and
when working with other teams or departments.
Interacts with and provides educational information for guests of all ages visiting the butterfly house.
Qualifications/Experience:
Possesses experience with gardening, plant selection, and maintaining.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Enthusiastic, strong sense of fun, and patient.
Experience working in a non-formal education/museum/education setting.
Comfortable working with individuals of different ages and abilities
Requested but not required: possess or in the process of earning ranking as Master Gardener.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to high humidity, intense sunlight, heat,
wind, precipitation, and uneven surfaces. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. This employee could also be exposed to
venomous and non-venomous invertebrates and reptiles.
While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee
is often required to: sit, stand, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, walk, reach with arms and hands,
climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and lift (the employee must be able to lift 50lbs). This
employee must handle a variety of butterflies and butterfly chrysalis. Vision abilities required by this job
include close vision.

Work Schedule
This is a seasonal, outdoor position from May to early/mid-September approx. 30/week.
