Job Overview:
The Museum Manager/Curator works for the Sierra County Historical Society (SCHS) and is responsible for all museum operations at the Kentucky Mine Museum in Sierra City. This person works directly under the supervision of the SCHS board of directors. This seasonal position requires performing a variety of tasks including working with the public, conducting park tours, supervising employees and volunteers and maintaining the museum.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Accessioning and proper handling of all objects by creating entries with Past Perfect
- Working closely with SCHS and reporting any problems or concerns to the board
- Conducting park tours and operating museum
- Working with deeds of gift, copyright laws and safety of collections
- Managing all aspects of museum operations, including budgets, reports, records, schedules, inventory, payroll, and correspondence
- Planning and implementing effective strategies to operate the museum, including generating documents and developing work goals for employees and volunteers
- Facilitating and implementing grants
- Collaborating with SCHS, Sierra County departments, and other organizations
- Coordinating special events and large tours
- Training and supervising employees and volunteers
- Utilizing Microsoft Office products to generate reports and records
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate possesses:
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field
- Museum or gallery management experience
- Strong research skills and knowledge of California history

- Knowledge of budgeting principles
