Museum Curator - Higher Ed. determines the level of care for the museum's entire collection. Evaluates and catalogs new collections according to department and library procedures.     Below are expectations of Part-Time Museum Director

    This position is a new position for the Ernie Pyle WWII Museum. There are basic expectations, many in cooperation with board members and museum committees, as well as creative opportunities to promote the positive growth of the Ernie Pyle WWII Museum.

    • 15 hours per week with possibility, if desired and necessary, to 20 hours per week.
    • Hours and days are flexible and set by person filling position with understanding hours may differ from week to week.

    BASIC DUTIES

    • Serve as the positive voice of the museum and its efforts
    • Pick up the mail weekly from the Dana Post Office

    o Sort the mail

    o Monetary donations should be logged and a thank-you sent

    o Monetary donations should be handled as directed and in cooperation with the board treasurer

    • Communicate with other museums & restaurants to get on the radar of tour bus companies, organizations, and other groups
    • Communicate with schools (Vermillion, Parke, & Edgar counties) to organize field trips—preferable 4th grade and older
    • Communicate with colleges in an effort to offer a visit for Journalism, History, Education majors and/or extended learning opportunities for alumni
    • Assist with field trips to the museum, if needed—this is determined by tour guides
    • Work with volunteer board members and tour guides for continued positive and accurate growth of the museum
    • Over time, be comfortable in leading a tour in the house and/or the Quonset huts in an effort to assist tour guides with groups and/or to cover in the event of an emergency.
    • Knowledge of basic office equipment (that’s not, necessarily, the newest version---not as old as the house, though!)
    • In off-season, check in weekly to check on utilities, maintenance needs, etc.
    • Work with tour guides on developing a work schedule
    • Take phone and email messages during season & off-season to set up additional needed tour guides for special visits to museum outside museum ‘season’
    • Schedule annual/semiannual cleaning of museum and ensure all supplies needed for operations of the museum are available (TP, paper towels, trash bags, etc.)
    • Supplying museum rack cards to IN/IL rest parks, hotels, etc.
    • Assist board members with newsletter and fundraising mailings
    • Attend or provide a written report for Board meetings. Communicate with committee chairs

    CREATIVE: This position offers a wide range of opportunities to promote the museum in an effort to keep history alive. The board is excited to discuss possibilities.

    The Board of Directors of the Friends of Ernie Pyle WWII Museum is eager to welcome the right person into this new postition.

    PERSONAL REMINDER

    • Always leave the museum BETTER than you found it! Clean up after yourself if having a snack (never in the actual museum) and using the restroom. This will help us ALL keep the museum in top shape for generations to come. This starts with EACH of us!!!

    Job Type: Part-time

    Pay: From $10.00 per hour

    Expected hours: No less than 15 per week

    Schedule:

    • Monday to Friday
    • Weekends as needed
