The Department of Medicine - Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the UConn Health is seeking an undergraduate Student Worker to assist in performing routine tasks in a research environment. Dr. Adam Kim's laboratory is focused on understanding inflammation in alcohol-associated liver disease.
Daily activities include:
Assist Lab Staff in development and implementation of routine in vivo and in vitro experiments.
Perform complex laboratory tasks with minimal supervision.
Be involved with research animals (mice) handling and experimental procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma and be enrolled in one of the following degree programs at University of Connecticut - Bachelor or Master's in a Biological Science area. Seeking a graduate student or undergraduate student who is close to graduation.
As this position's required skills can only be obtained through on-the-job training, applicants with any of the following skills will be preferred:
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Prior wet lab experience.
Work with nucleic acids extraction and amplification.
Protein extraction and immunoblotting.
Immunoassays.
Research animal handling (mice).
Ability to operate a computer and other research equipment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Data acquisition and statistical analysis.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
SCHEDULE: This is a part-time, 20-hour per week, temporary position with a 1-year duration. Monday-Friday, schedule will vary upon department need.
SALARY: $18.00 per hour. This position is eligible for health benefits.
