    DEPT./SCHOOL: Technology & Information Management           

     

    WAGE/HOUR STATUS:  Exempt

     

    PAY GRADE:  Technology PG 4

     

    NO. OF DAYS:  236

     

    SUPERVISES:  Supervise and evaluate performance of assigned personnel.

     

    EXPERIENCE:  5 years of successful computer network related job experience or proven ability to learn

     

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: 

    1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred          
    2. Master’s degree preferred
    3. Microsoft Certification preferred
    4. Networking Certification preferred

     

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

     

    To manage the installation and maintenance of local area networks and data communication equipment to protect the security of the network, to ensure data integrity and retention of the district’s systems, and supervise other personnel charged with administering the servers and network electronics. 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

         

    Special Knowledge/Skills: 

    1. Knowledge of microcomputer configurations.
    2. Familiarity with local area network topologies, wiring schemes, and operating systems.
    3. Knowledge of Windows personal computer and server operating system installation and configuration.
    4. Knowledge of  data communication equipment and terminology.
    5. Knowledge of network configuration, setup, and administration (VLAN, switches, routers, wireless devices, etc.)
    6. Ability to effectively communicate with school personnel, systems staff and computer technicians.   

    Terms of Employment:  According to district approved calendar 

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

     

     Instructional Management 

    1. Managing staff and work load related to computer network(s) and servers.
    2. Design, install, and maintain network equipment and software.
    3. Install network boards, drivers and workstation software.
    4. Assist in trouble shooting, diagnosing and repairing network and data communication problems.
    5. Coordinate computer activity with remote computer sites to help alleviate the loss of data communication between mainframe sites.   

    Computer Systems

     

         6.  Back-up administrative LAN servers keeping accurate records of the dates and files.

         7.  Assist school personnel in installing software.

         8.  Set and enforce security and software restriction policies on network computers in

              accordance with best practices.  

         9.  Assist operations staff with duties in the computer room.

       10.  Assist with other Technology and Information Management Department

              responsibilities as assigned.

     

    Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

     

       11.  Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or as may be

              necessary for job effectiveness.

     

    Data Communications

     

       12.  Make recommendations on equipment used and band widths used throughout the

              district and in connections to Region 20.  

       13.  Provide information used to plan budgets.

     

    Professional Growth and Development

     

      14.  Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted

             community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.

      15.  Secure advance training in any new equipment, software being considered for

             adoption by the District.

      16.  Read the current literature in the field.  

     

    EQUIPMENT USED:

     

    Microcomputers, mainframe printers, laser printers, dot-matrix printers, network equipment, fiber and CAT5 (6) cabling, tape drives, storage area network devices, SAN devices, switches, routers. 

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

    Emotional – Maintain emotional control under stress

    Physical – Moderate carrying and lifting. 

    Standing, sitting, walking, use of fingers, eyes and ears

    Environment – Inside normal office environment
