Building Blocks Preschool and Childcare Center is a Ministry of New Hope Assembly Church. We have been open to the public since 1998 as a leading daycare, providing safe, high-quality childcare to our community. Our center implements the High Scope Curriculum, Conscious Discipline and the teachings of Jesus. We plan to maintain our high standards for staffing so that we may continue the tradition of excellence previously established. BUILDING BLOCKS PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Direct Reports: Center Staff
QUILIFICATIONS:
Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education or child development; OR Bachelor's degree or higher in child-related field including 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development courses and 450 hours of experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in the Center environment. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand 95% of the day, stoop and bend frequently, perform all activities with children, i.e., jump, dance, walk, run, play on the floor, etc. for extended periods of time. Work is also performed at community sites for field trips. Periodically scheduled staff meeting and training sessions must be attended as well as any Building Blocks special events, i.e., parades, open houses, spirit events, etc.
ADAPTABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
High—Position requires a high degree of adaptability. Position requires incumbent to engage in multiple tasks and respond quickly and appropriately to frequently changing needs of children, staff, parents, and Building Blocks.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Responds to phone calls from customer providing information requested.
- Ensures retention of families through superior customer service.
- Ensures that all incidents and accidents are properly documented and communicated to the appropriate parties.
- Responds to all customer concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Makes all children and families feel as though they are a priority through frequent written and verbal communication.
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Has in-depth knowledge of the terms and conditions of all contracts.
- Oversees and assists in the maintaining of accurate and complete tuition records including DHS billing.
- Makes financial recommendations to Senior Pastor concerning tuition, supplies, and other monies involving Building Blocks.
- Schedule and maintain staffing so that State Requirements are met as well as keeping labor costs to a minimum.
PROGRAM AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
- Researches various topics to prepare and implement play based curriculum for the preschool.
- Evaluates the children’s development in an ongoing manner and adjusts the curriculum to meet individual needs whenever possible.
- Makes a written evaluation of each child’s development.
- Uses this written evaluation for parent/teacher conferences once a year.
- Ensures that all children are properly supervised at all times.
- Ensures the classrooms are staffed appropriately.
- Monitors and adjusts as needed the weekly schedules of staff.
- Is prompt and available.
ENROLLMENT
- Assesses enrollment needs.
- Conducts effective tours and responds appropriately to phone and person-to-person inquiries regarding enrollment.
- Has understanding of all forms to be filled out by parents for enrollment.
- Conducts enrollment interviews to assess the needs of the customer matches those needs to services offered.
- Ensures customer properly fills out all necessary forms.
LICENSING, DOCUMENTATION, AND RECORDS RETENTION
- Ensures state mandated ratios are followed.
- Maintains all records appropriately, including but not limited to staff files, children files, attendance, immunization records, emergency drill records, and tuition records.
- Ensures that all health and medication procedures are followed appropriately, including storage of medication.
- Have knowledge of all state licensing requirements and is able to apply requirements to Building Blocks.
- Completes weekly Communicable disease forms for the Three Rivers Health Department.
- After yearly licensing visits, resolves any noncompliance areas as directed by the State of Michigan and ensures future compliance.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND RETENTION
- Ensures staff retention through effective management techniques, such as development and maintenance of a team environment, acknowledging staff contributions, development of open, supportive communication, and leading by example.
- Maintains a professional, business relationship with staff at all times.
- Maintains a cheerful attitude. Makes everyone feel welcome and accepted at all times. Smiles.
- Ensures that staff has the knowledge necessary to complete tasks within their area of service.
CENTER MAINTENANCE
- Maintains all areas of the Center in a safe, proper, and clean manner.
- Evaluates the condition of materials and their use.
- Performs general housekeeping duties as necessary.
- Reports maintenance issues to the proper channel for resolution.
INTERNAL COMMUNICATION
- Communicates in a positive manner with all preschool and church staff, parents, and anyone else that contact is made with through out the workday.
- Reports incidents of critical nature immediately to the Senior Pastor.
- Maintains a cheerful attitude.
LEADERSHIP
- Makes everyone feel welcome and accepted at all times.
- Is positive. Emphasizes the good things God is doing in our fellowship.
- Serves as a role model for all staff in behavior, performance, and appearance standards.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains state in-service training requirements.
- Attends monthly Director’s meetings when possible to gain relevant information to use in program.
- Performs in the capacity of any position as needed.
- Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures not otherwise mentioned.
- Shops for supplies as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned in time of preschool or church need.
