Job Title: Network Technician

Supervisor: Network and Telecommunications Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: Full time; Shift (4-10 s) or (5-8 s)

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for helping to maintain and configure the network infrastructure at the site which utilizes a Gigabit Ethernet backbone supporting multiple virtual LANs, a site wireless network with over 130 access points. The position will also be responsible for monitoring network performance and for maintain security updates and upgrades to site equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Other duties may be assigned.)

• Installs and configures software on local and wide-area data network equipment hubs, switches, routers, Scolds, repeaters, etc.
• Installs and maintains printing and file storage servers - manages print queues, allocates disk space, provides user accounts, DNS, IP addresses, etc.
• Maintains system documentation - configuration specifications, versions of software, licenses, diagrams of network connections, hardware asset information, etc.
• Provides proper security configuration for the network and servers.
• Monitors performance of the network and makes tuning modifications to provide optimal performance.
• Coordinates voice, video, radio and pager services with the providing agencies and vendors.
• Designs network modifications and server migrations when necessary.
• Provides system backup and disaster recovery operation and planning.
• Provides consulting services for other staff functions, functional users, Help Desk systems analysts, system administrators, security, etc.
• Provides direct user support for various business applications and desktop utilities when required in support of the Help Desk.
• Manages external network segments and Internet connection.
• Maintains a safe working environment. Demonstrates awareness and implementation of applicable environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) requirements while also alerting co-workers of such requirements as needed.
• Demonstrates the ability to get along with co-workers, customers and visitors.
• Demonstrates a personal commitment to safety and quality.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND KEY COMPETENCIES

• Requires BS degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience with a Windows server environment and data communications network OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Formal training on Cisco network hardware and software is required with proven successful experience.

TRAINING, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Must be a citizen of the United States and authorized to work in the US
• Must have a valid driver s license and be able to operate a government vehicle
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy L security clearance

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to meet physical capacity requirements of position as determined by the Occupational Medical Provider.
• Must be able to wear company-provided personal protection equipment when required.
