Network Engineering Director jobs in Denton, TX

Network Engineering Director plans, designs, and develops all aspects of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Identifies network requirements for hardware, software, and services that will provide optimal solutions and meet the capacity requirement for the organization. Being a Network Engineering Director directs network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Develops monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Additionally, Network Engineering Director keeps abreast with the latest technologies and best practices and utilizes vendors and providers to provide additional resources to support networks. Usually is certified and has deep knowledge of vendor-specific products. Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Network Engineering Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Network Engineering Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     What you’ll be doing…

    This position – which is part of the Verizon Thrive Apprenticeship Program – will give you a chance to channel your drive and enthusiasm while learning from the best minds in the industry.  You’ll be front and center, hands-on, and contributing your creative energy to high-impact projects from the moment you arrive through the course of this 1 year apprentice experience.  You will take part in meaningful work and real-life projects across various teams within Verizon that will help you grow both professionally and personally throughout the program while preparing you to work as a developer at a technology company.

    During this immersive apprenticeship experience, you will complete an accelerated 1 year program designed to:

    • Teach you the basics of the software development life cycle to include learning the basics of programming in HTML and Javascript. 
    • Engage you in coding challenges, while gaining practical experience of the entire software stack.
    • Provide you with hand-on assignments that give you the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge.

     

    Daily tasks could include:

    • Working with technologies such as: Test Driven Development (TTD), Object Oriented Programming (OOP), RESTful design pattern, Node.js, Data structures & Algorithms, and Web Security just to name a few. 

    • Attending daily and weekly check-in meetings and training with your assigned coach and your fellow team to report progress.

    • Completing daily facilitated study time towards your apprenticeship curriculum.

    • Working with technical staff and mentors to learn workplace skills and tools specific to your role and the technical environment.

    • Participating in peer reviews of projects for fellow apprentices.

    • Collaborating with your team, mentors, and managers.

    • Applying all that you have learned to real-world applications through projects.

    What we’re looking for… 

    You’ll need to have:

    • You must be a member of the Multiverse community to be considered and have successfully completed the 15 hour Intro to Coding Course with Multiverse.

    • High school diploma or GED. 

    • Associate’s degree or one or more years of work experience.

    • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship.

    Even better if you have one or more of the following:

    • Demonstrated interest in technology.

    • Demonstrated strong communication and presentation skills.

    • Previous related internship or work experience.

    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.

    • Proficiency in Google Slides, Docs, Sheets.

    Other Information:

    • This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

    • This is a full time 1 year Verizon Thrive Apprenticeship Program
