Network Engineering Director plans, designs, and develops all aspects of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Identifies network requirements for hardware, software, and services that will provide optimal solutions and meet the capacity requirement for the organization. Being a Network Engineering Director directs network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Develops monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Additionally, Network Engineering Director keeps abreast with the latest technologies and best practices and utilizes vendors and providers to provide additional resources to support networks. Usually is certified and has deep knowledge of vendor-specific products. Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Network Engineering Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Network Engineering Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Job Title: Director of Network and Fiber Construction

    Reports to: VP Network Construction & Development

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Department: Engineering 

     

     *This position will cover the McAllen/Laredo area

    Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Responsible for installation and maintenance of buried and aerial fiber.
    • Make and implement recommendations that will improve the construction process.
    • Help develop the yearly construction budget.
    • Maintain budget
    • Schedule work efforts
    • Hire/termination of employees
    • Weekly reporting of money spent, pending and completed work, and accidents/damages
    • Communicate with city officials about work efforts, damages, and completion dates.
    • Construction fleet and equipment management
    • Help develop safety standards and implementation in coordination with the Maintenance and Safety Compliance officer
    • Keep track of all employee time – including overtime, vacation, ect.
    • Makes sure that all employees that are traveling are properly scheduled and equipped.

     

     

    Skills and Abilities:

     

    • Maintain forty (40) hours per week performance level, plus additional hours as job requires, including after hours and weekends as needed.
    • Ability to work without direct supervision 90% of the time as required by job.
    • Maintain positive attitude towards co-workers and industry contacts.
    • Maintain professional dress and grooming as defined in the Vexus Employee Manual.
    • Personally identify strengths and limitations and willingly self-correct to meet necessary standards of performance.
    • Adhere to company policies and practices as specified in the Vexus Employee Manual.
    • Maintain work area in neat and orderly fashion.
    • Establish and adhere to a record of good attendance and punctuality.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all customer and company information.
    • Maintain accurate time records as required for position.
    • Contribute to the overall success of individual personnel and to the company as a whole.
    • Represent the company at all times in a professional manner.

     

    Education and Experience:

     

    • Bachelor degree in Telecommunications or a similar field preferred or commensurate experience in the telecommunications industry.
    • Five or more years of relevant work experience.
    • Three or more years of management experience.

     

     

    Technical Skills: 

     

    • Knowledge of the telecommunications industry and its practices.
    • Knowledge of underground and aerial construction.
    • Knowledge of safety practices pertaining to underground and aerial construction.
    • Have the ability to operate a backhoe safely.
    • Have the ability to operate a trencher/plow safely.
    • Have the ability to operate a bucket truck safely.
    • Have the ability to operate a boring machine safely.

    • Ability to lead and drive execution of projects.
    • Willingness to take ownership of resolving issues as they arise.
    • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
    • Responsiveness to our external and internal customers.
    • Team player with peers, subordinates and superiors.
