Network Operations Manager manages the daily operations of the organization's network infrastructure, including hardware, software, security, and services, to ensure it meets the organization's performance objectives. Implements policies and procedures that ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, minimize downtime, and support efficient operations. Being a Network Operations Manager provides network administrators and technicians with training in the best practices and technologies. Ensures logging and documentation of daily network operations incidents and changes. Additionally, Network Operations Manager leads troubleshooting and resolution of routine network issues and conducts root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurrences and identify potential technological, training, or process improvements. Automates routine tasks using scripting or basic programs. Advises on budget expenditures to ensure required tools and equipment are procured and maintained. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Network Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     Position Summary:

    The Network Manager performs and oversees the installation, operation and maintenance of complex local area and wide area computer networks at a Community College which uses information technology services to support such functions as instruction, business operation, student records, library services, messaging and e-mail systems and computer labs.  The position may also provide a range of information technology services to the various computer users of the College including installation, configuration and testing of personal computers, printers and other such devices and the diagnosis and repair of operating problems with those types of equipment.  The incumbent frequently performs hands-on hardware and software installation, testing, operation and servicing.  The position’s work follows industry and Community College standards for wiring and network active/passive device installations.

    Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

    Example of Job Duties:

    Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology or other administrator, the Network Manager is for assuring the technically sound and functionally appropriate installation, operation and maintenance of the College’s local area and wide area network systems, as well as of related personal computers, work stations and peripheral equipment and for providing technically competent installation, operation and maintenance of other campus computer hardware and software, as directed, through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

    • Effective functioning of the College’s networked computer systems.
    • Support for the College’s information technology requirements.
    • Install, manage and administer network servers and/or email servers.
    • Administer and manage data and telecommunications systems and equipment.
    • Guidance and assistance to faculty, students and staff in use of information technology systems.
    • Training, development and supervision of assigned staff.

    In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.  These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technological discipline with two (2) or more years of experience in computer system, network and software design, development and implementation; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

    Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: 

    • Computer hardware and software, local and wide area networking, software design and development, equipment assembly and installation.
    • Installing, operating, adapting, diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in computer and network equipment and software.
    • Leading staff members in a technological and academic environment.
    • Interacting favorably with faculty, administrators, staff, students and public.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in server and desktop virtualization including cluster management, preferably in a Cisco and VMware environment.
    • Experience with enterprise data storage and storage area networks (SANs), including Dell and Pure Storage.
    • Experience with administering enterprise networks (VLANs, ACLs, switching/routing), preferably using Cisco equipment.

    Starting Salary:

    Anticipated Salary; $66,949 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
