Duties and Responsibilities:
70% Responsible for the installation, layout, and maintenance of all network components. i.e. identify problems, recommend changes, maintain standards, implement new technologies, create documentation.
20% Place service calls to vendors to affect repairs, diagnose problems, or replace network server equipment as necessary.
10% Provide network hardware diagnostic support from the wiring closet infrastructure to higher end layer III technology. Travel to remote sites to troubleshoot and resolve network problems.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a computer or engineering related field.
Required Experience: Minimum 3-5 years network and layer 2 devices experience and mastery of layer 1 protocols. Applicant must have a demonstrated working knowledge of network layer 2 devices and their functions, including bridging and switching. The applicant must have experience with data link protocols, ethernet, token ring, frame relay and frame related networking knowledge. analysis, design, installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of enterprise-wide LAN, WAN, wireless and network security. Applicant must have a working knowledge of Anti-virus software products. Applicant must have a complete understanding of the OSI model and a working knowledge of the function of each layer. The applicant must have demonstrated ability to install, configure and troubleshoot bridges, hubs, switches, optical fiber and twisted pair cable and connectors; demonstrated ability to install, configure and troubleshoot mac layer technology hardware and software components; demonstrated ability to install, configure and troubleshoot layer 2 devices. The applicant must also have demonstrable ability and working knowledge of networking tools for monitoring and maintaining network infrastructure tools for triage and network problem resolution.
