  • Position Summary

    The Health Equity and Policy Coordinator under the Reproductive Justice (RJ) Program will
    promote a reproductive justice framework to increase choices and access to the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare for people in New Mexico. This role’s primary focus will be on advocacy, research, and developing strategies as needed for the RJ Program.

    Primary Duties

    • Develop and implement advocacy strategies for policies that promote health equity in Northern New Mexico
    • Research health disparities and their underlying causes and utilize and present information to inform policy recommendations
    • Create and disseminate high-quality reports and additional materials for programmatic work
    • Collaborating with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups to develop and implement policies that address health inequities
    • Providing education and training on health equity and policy issues to healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community membersdisparities and promote health equityrecommendations for improvement as needed
    • Analyzing health data to identify disparities in health outcomes and access to care and using this information to inform policy decisions
    • In collaboration with the RJ team, develop and implement classes to address health
    • Engage and involve communities to understand healthcare needs and priorities and ensure their voices are represented in policy decisions
    • Quarterly evaluation of the effectiveness of health equity policies and programs and make
    • Compile and present annual data and reports on health disparities and the impact of health equity policies to stakeholders and decision-makers at the end of each fiscal year
    • Maintains confidentiality of individuals seen at TWU and through the RJ Program

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field and/or a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in public health, social services, or classroom based educationprograms required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may besubstituted, as long as it directly relates to the essential duties and responsibilities
    • 1 -2 years of demonstrated experience in reproductive health, family support services, orrelated fields, with a strong understanding of reproductive justice principles.
    • Knowledge of community resources and services related to reproductive health, family planning, and sexual health.

    Communications, Engagement, and Base Building
    ● Practice and build solid and authentic relationships with Tewa Women United community,
    supporters, staff, and other stakeholders
    ● Engage practices of base building, political education, communications, grassroots
    community organizing, and alliance-building to further Tewa Women United’s work in our
    northern Indigenous and diverse communities and the state of New Mexico
    ● Provide updates to Google Calendar and Monday.com on a daily/weekly basis
    ● Provide RJ Project updates at monthly TWU staff meetings

    ● Participate and attend weekly supervision, monthly staff meetings, community meetings,
    events, and training as required. Provide weekly reports on RJ news, events, and
    opportunities to social media sites and the TWU Communications Coordinator
    ● Develop a resource booklet for RJ Program regarding safe spaces for clients
    ● Collaborate on maintaining consistent messaging in distributing materials for outreach,
    presentations, and social media to describe RJ Program alignment with the Reproductive
    Justice framework
    ● Prepare and participate in speaking engagements with the Reproductive Justice Program
    Manager on TWU’s behalf as assigned
    ● Assist with planning and participation in new and ongoing community-based initiatives as
    assigned
    ● Commitment to anti-oppression/ anti-racism work with a focus on racial equity and
    reproductive justice; focused on but not limited to birth justice

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated ability to set clear goals and objectives, effectively plan and organize activities and projects, and exhibit strong negotiation skills.
    • Proven track record of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating sound judgment in decision-making processes.
    • Proficiency in clear written and oral communication, with the capability to engage with individuals at various levels of responsibility.
    • Proficient use of computer equipment, software, and electronic devices to efficiently carryout tasks. Familiarity with tools such as Google Suite, Monday.com, Microsoft Word,Excel, PowerPoint, and database management software is desirable.
    • Experience in creating spreadsheets and flyers is essential.
    • Experience working in BIPOC communities, cultural humility to the needs and distinct tribal and cultural ways of life and willingness to complete cultural competency training and/or undoing racism training.
    • Willingness to participate in cultural competency training and/or Anti-Racism training to enhance further understanding and effectiveness in working with diverse populations.

    Employment Screening and Compliance

    • The employee must maintain a current and valid driver’s license and insurance to perform duties, as the position requires activities involving motor vehicle travel.

    Environment Work Conditions

    • Most essential duties are performed in an office environment (in-person or virtual pending Covid restrictions) with exposure to various business equipment and other pertinent materials normally found in this work setting.
    • Work is generally performed in an area permitting partial to total privacy.
    • As a condition of employment, a person may work from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm except for events/training offered outside these hours.
    • Work may occasionally require lifting of various materials and equipment over 20 pounds.
    • Travel may be required.
