Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Level II Technician – American Petroleum Institute (API) Tank and Piping Inspections

  • General Functions: The NDE Technician will work in a collaborative team environment under the supervision of the Inspections Department Manager. The NDE Technician shall possess the ability to work directly with Inspection personnel, have excellent communication (oral and written), and analytical/problem solving skills. Certification as Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Level II or prior certification as an NDT Level I technician with adequate field experience to certify to level II per SNT-TC1A standards in Magnetic Particle and Ultrasonic testing is required. Candidates familiar with Alaskan weather conditions and locations are preferred.


    Role and Responsibilities for Position:

    • Support API 653 Tank and API 570 Piping Inspections with NDE and labor necessary to complete field inspections.
    • Set-up and calibrate equipment, conduct examinations with appropriate NDT Technique; interpret, evaluate, and document results.
    • Perform Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT), Ultrasonic Thickness Scanning (UTS) of API 650 storage tank roofs, shells, bottoms and appurtenances.
    • Perform Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) Tank Bottom Scanning.
    • Assist with all aspects of the inspections field work and reporting.
    • Familiar with the scope and limitations of the method in which certified and capable of directing the work of trainees and Level I personnel.
    • Capable of lifting 75 lbs.
    • Travel to inspection locations throughout Alaska is required.

    Technical Job Requirements:

    • High School graduate or equivalent required, completion of a specialized NDT technical program meeting SNT-TC1A for Magnetic Particle and Ultrasonic testing.
    • Certification as an NDT Level II or prior certification as an NDT Level I technician with adequate field experience to certify to level II per SNT-TC1A standards in Magnetic Particle and Ultrasonic testing.
    • Valid Driver’s License required.
    • TWIC card or ability to obtain one within 6 months required.
    • Working Conditions: Field duties require outdoor work in industrial and/or remote locations, performing work in dark, loud, and potentially hazardous environments and operating safely in adverse weather conditions in an arctic climate. Interaction with other inspection crew, sub-contractors, and client personnel. Able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
