Zap Energy is looking for an experienced and self-motivated Thermal/Hydraulics Nuclear Engineer with detailed knowledge and experience with thermal hydraulics and safety analysis in support of design, construction and licensing of nuclear facility. 

Responsibilities

• Responsible in developing neutronics modeling, radiological engineering in support of steady state and transient plant safety analysis activities
• Develop and apply thermal-hydraulic analysis methods from steady state one dimensional network hydraulic analysis to transient, three-dimensional, plant, system and component-level calculations
• Develop analytical solutions for a range of technical challenges to support system engineering related to the mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering technical areas including heat transfer, radiation transport, shielding design, nuclear heating, dose calculations, and postulated scenario analysis (using probabilistic and deterministic methods)
• Perform code benchmarking and validation analyses to support code qualification and methodology development
• Collaborate with various technical teams to support RAMI analysis

Qualifications

Required

• Education: M.S/Ph.D in Nuclear or Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with application to nuclear systems
• Years of experience: 5-10 years
• Experience with nuclear system analysis with both deterministic and Monte Carlo methods of neutron/photon transport
• Strong analytical skills with fundamental understanding of the first principles of transport methods and nuclear data
• Experience with: Python, FORTRAN
• Experience with common nuclear engineering software, such as RELAP, TRACE/SNAP, MCNP, OpenMC, FISPACT, ATTILA, SCALE, ORIGEN, DAGMC etc.
• Knowledge of various nuclear codes and standards

Preferred

• Background in fusion projects a plus.

The estimated salary range for this position is $100k - $170k. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications.  Range is published in accordance with Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.
