Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor jobs in Lake Charles, LA

Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor supervises personnel engaged in diagnostic laboratory testing. Performs assigned phases of nuclear research under the guidance of Director of Nuclear Medicine. Being a Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor assists medical students with hands-on instruction and equipment training. Monitors inventory of radioisotopes. Additionally, Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine. The Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.   • This job assumes responsibility for operation, technical and personnel management related duties for assigned Laboratory section and for solving day to day lab operational problems and notifying Lab Manager/Physician Supervisor of problems as appropriate.  This job maintains a patient /client focused section that complies with the standards of accrediting/regulatory agencies; oversees training of all personnel in section and performs technical work as necessary; promotes and ensures compliance with the company and Laboratory policies and practices.  Maintains confidentiality of patient and personnel-related information at all times and exhibits a high degree of professional excellence characterized by sound independent judgment, reliability, initiative, flexibility and a high standard of ethics.

    Education:
    • Required - Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science 

    Work Experience:
    • Required - 4 years training and experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty under a qualified Medical Director
    • Experience working in controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc.

    Certifications:
    Required - Current license or temporary license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist in the state of practice; Meets CLIA and CAP requirements for testing personnel relative to scope of duties; Meets CLIA standards as a general laboratory supervisor; ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist
    • Any incumbent certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004 must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP’s Certification Maintenance Program
    • Preferred- Current license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Specialist in the state of practice

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
    • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
    • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Judgmental skills in order to identify and solve problems as well as handle difficult situations
    • Analytical skills necessary to prepare/interpret a variety of management reports, analyze complex data and trouble shoot equipment
    • Analytical skills to collect data, perform calculations, maintain system logs and operate laboratory computer equipment
    • Skills to manage stress in order to maintain a professional atmosphere and provide quality service
    • Preferred- Advanced analytical skills necessary in order to analyze complex data and trouble shoot equipment
    Job Duties:
    • Coordinates daily operations
    • Supervises, trains and develops department staff
    • Oversees performance improvement and quality control programs
    • Ensures fiscal responsibility
