Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor supervises personnel engaged in diagnostic laboratory testing. Performs assigned phases of nuclear research under the guidance of Director of Nuclear Medicine. Being a Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor assists medical students with hands-on instruction and equipment training. Monitors inventory of radioisotopes. Additionally, Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine. The Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Summary
Coordinates and participates in the examination and treatment of patient using radionuclides within the guideline of NRC regulations under the direction
of a radiologist.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.
Knowledge, Skills and Education
1. Education: Graduate from an approved JRC program. Holds current BLS CPR Card.
2. Experience: ARRT (American Registry Of Radiological Technologists) (N) or NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board)
3. Knowledge and Abilities: Attends education programs as described by department policy. Participates in staff meetings and stay abreast of changes in policies, procedures and technical advancements. Employs safe operation principles of nuclear medicine generating equipment and radionuclide administration. Knowledge of hospital procedures including infection control. Skill and accuracy in patient positioning and scientific application of established technical factors. Employs proper body mechanics techniques for transportation, transfer and position of patients and equipment. Provides service to all age groups.
4. Registration, Certification or Licensure Requirement: Ohio Licensure. Registered Nuclear Technologist/Nuclear experience preferred.
5. General Orientation: Orientation to provide understanding of existing hospital and departmental policies and procedures, as well as the values and requirements of Mercy Health Mission Services
Responsibilities
1. Compiles with established policies, procedure, and practice to assure that standards of quality, efficiency and safety are met. Deals fairly, reasonably, considerately and honestly with all others associated with the hospital including employees, patients, visitors; respects others personal dignity and rights.
2. Maintains proficiency with all procedures equipment and regulations pertaining to Nuclear Medicine.
3. Performs the necessary documentation and testing for compliance with NRC licensure.
4. Maintains or develops other related skills depending upon the departmental needs.
5. Ensures a state of cleanliness and readiness through the work area, assures the physical and emotional well being of the patient while in our care.
6. Documents appropriate patient information on requests and supplemental forms. Completes all other required documentation such as equipment checks and QA activities, provides statistics as necessary.
7. Interacts with department staff, ancillary departments, nursing staff, physicians and patients to ensure an organized and comprehensive implementation of patient care. This includes pre and post exam patient education. Participates in On-Call rotation per department policy/requirements.
