Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor supervises personnel engaged in diagnostic laboratory testing. Performs assigned phases of nuclear research under the guidance of Director of Nuclear Medicine. Being a Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor assists medical students with hands-on instruction and equipment training. Monitors inventory of radioisotopes. Additionally, Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine. The Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Nuclear Laboratory Technologist Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Responsibilities:
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients for imaging procedures
- Operate imaging equipment such as gamma cameras and PET scanners
- Position patients correctly for imaging procedures and ensure their comfort and safety
- Monitor patients during procedures to ensure their well-being
- Capture high-quality images of the targeted area using specialized imaging techniques
- Analyze images and provide accurate interpretations to physicians for diagnosis
- Maintain patient records and document all procedures performed
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care
Skills:
- Proficiency in performing ER (Emergency Room) nuclear medicine procedures
- Experience with PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scans
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to nuclear medicine procedures
- Familiarity with aseptic technique for handling radioactive materials
- Understanding of mammography and sonography procedures
- Strong knowledge of human physiology and anatomy
- Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations using nuclear medicine techniques
- Competence in X-ray imaging techniques
