    Summary:

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Responsible for performing all assigned diagnostic vascular ultrasound exams in a timely manner. Must be able to perform general and vascular ultrasound procedures. (Adult and Pediatric - abdominal, OB, pelvic, and small parts). Performs procedures according to physician’s orders in the patient’s chart or per prescription on outpatients. As a member of the care team, the Vascular Technologist is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.

    POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

    • Associate of Science degree in radiology, diagnostic ultrasound, or a certificate of successful completion from an accredited school of ultrasound or recognized educational program.
    • Must be eligible for American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification.
    • Must be registered in Vascular Ultrasound (i.e. RVT).
    • ARDMS certification is preferred.
    • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
    • American Heart Association ACLS and PALS recommended.
    • Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
    • Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
    • Ability to read, write and speak English required. Spanish preferred.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
    • Computer knowledge required.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

    • At least two (2) years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist strongly preferred.
    • Hospital experience preferred.
    • Demonstrates accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.
    • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
    • Requires working with frequent interruptions. Must project a professional image.

    Responsibilities:

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

    • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
    • Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
    • Responsible for performing ultrasound procedures in a timely manner.
    • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
    • Performs necessary quality control and maintenance on equipment.
    • Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
    • Performs all ultrasound procedures as per procedure protocols.
    • Performs at a proficient level, all tasks within the specialty area.
    • Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
    • Assumes responsibility for collection and processing of patients specimens.
    • Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer system.
    • Completes accurate documentation on patient records according to policy.
    • Documents all pertinent patient information on worksheets for Radiologist to interpret.
    • Ensures exams are verified and completed for charging on PACS/RIS systems.
    • Responsible for training technologists with the appropriate procedure protocols.
    • Demonstrates accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.
    • Must be willing to rotate to other facilities as needed.
    • Maintain Texas Department of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
    • Maintain equipment and procedure competencies.
    • Complete and update all employment requirements, including Health.edu, Employee Health, and Radiology Competencies, Credentials, etc.
    • Responsible for earning and submitting 10 Category A credits of continuing education related to Ultrasound annually when employed at an accredited site.
    • Passing of a registry does not constitute CE credits.
    • Call is required.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

    C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
