Nuclear Medicine Technologist jobs in Ann Arbor, MI

Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. Creates and enhances diagnostic images using a variety of imaging equipment and tools. Being a Nuclear Medicine Technologist collects biologic specimens and prepares data for interpretation by physicians. Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical usage for regulatory compliance. Additionally, Nuclear Medicine Technologist may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically requires certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     GENERAL SUMMARY:

    • Under the direction of a Radiologist, specializes in the performance of procedures using various isotopes for the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.
    • Performs related functions according to department protocols.
    • Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares patient for the examination.
    • Obtains additional information about the patient medical history as necessary.
    • Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.
    • Prepares prescribed radioactive isotopes for administration to patients.
    • Reviews clinical data on requisition, analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment and following protocols performs the Nuclear Medicine scan.
    • Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information for the area of the body being studied.
    • May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required to procedure to be performed.
    • Demonstrates on a consistent basis Team member standards of excellence including: AIDET, open communication, responding in a timely manner, displaying a positive attitude, fostering innovation, respecting diversity, etc.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
    • Must be registered Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and/or The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
    • Must maintain required hours of continued medical education.
    • Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).
