Nuclear Medicine Technologist jobs in Phoenix, AZ

Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. Creates and enhances diagnostic images using a variety of imaging equipment and tools. Being a Nuclear Medicine Technologist collects biologic specimens and prepares data for interpretation by physicians. Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical usage for regulatory compliance. Additionally, Nuclear Medicine Technologist may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically requires certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Job Description

    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs examinations, on pre-mature neo-natal, neo-natal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; administers radioactive material to patients for diagnostic exams and therapies; utilizes effective radiation safety practices; maintains record keeping in accordance with governing agencies; works closely with other staff to maximize efficiency and productivity

    Responsibilities:

    Administers radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of provider; explains the procedures to the patient, answers the patient’s questions, and obtains the patient’s consent; injects (doses) patients with radioactive material. 

    Places radiopharmaceutical orders after reviewing provider’s orders; obtains and documents pertinent to patient history; calculates, measures and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received. 

    Determines the correct procedure for the study ordered; maintains the required records for dosing, decaying and disposing of radioactive material. 

    Performs required quality control on all cameras and dose measuring equipment. 

    Other duties as assigned. 

    Credentials:
    Essential:
    * BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)
    * CERTIFIED NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGIST (CNMT)
    * NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGY (N)

    Education:
    Essential:
    * ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE

    Other information:
    REQUIRED: 2 years related experience
