Nuclear Pharmacist under the direction of a physician, compounds and dispenses radiopharmaceutical drugs to medical care providers. Responsible for procuring, compounding, dispensing, and distributing radiopharmaceuticals. Being a Nuclear Pharmacist analyzes drugs for verification of identity and strength. Must have completed a program in nuclear pharmacy. Additionally, Nuclear Pharmacist may require an advanced degree of pharmacy. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Requires license to practice. Nuclear Pharmacist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. 1. Prepares and review medication orders per physician request using appropriate techniques according to protocols, policies and procedures.
- Assures the appropriateness of a medication order, including age-related factors, before preparing or permitting the distribution of the first dose.
- Maintains accuracy of patient profiles

- Dispenses medications in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Exercises skill as a team member in the management of medical emergencies
- Ensures the policies and procedures related to medication distribution are followed.
- Oversees pharmacy technicians to assist with all medication distribution functions.
2. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department:
- Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians. Participates in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel.
- Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team member
- Coordinates and completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
- Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
- Answers the telephone promptly identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Adheres to infection control protocols.
- Develop pharmaceutical knowledge of hospital staff and students.
- Keeps pharmacy area neat, clean and well-organized.
3. Maintains competency required for current job title/position:
- Maintains current pharmacist license. Ensures applicable CE records are maintained.
- Attends pharmacy staff meetings
- Attends orientation, education, and training programs.
- Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
License: Registered Pharmacist (RX) required.
