  • Job Summary

    The Pest Control Technician is responsible for exterminating or controlling unwanted pests such as mice, insects, wasps, etc. in and around the customer’s homes and property. This includes remediation work. The Pest Control Technician performs essential job functions and other duties as assigned by the Pest Control Manager.   

    Classification:  Full-time/Hourly/Non-exempt

    Work Location:  On the road.  Local travel within territory.

    Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday and weekends as needed. Overtime if needed.

    Reports To: Pest Control Manager

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Pest Control:

    • Evaluate pest control situation by inspecting conditions; identifying infestations and determining causes; analyzing treatment, prevention, and exclusion options.
    • Identify pests and problem areas at customer sites.
    • Exterminate, control, or exclude unwanted pests in an environment with the use of an integrated pest management system tailored to the specific site, and customers’ needs.
    • Apply organic and/or synthetic pesticides in buildings or structures and the surrounding environment following label guidelines 
    • Place pest control materials by determining appropriate bait, including gels, dust, granules, and liquids; applying pest control materials to interior and exterior.
    • Complete records by entering required information.

    Animal Trapping (if assigned):

    • Set & monitor traps according to Company Policy. (see Company Handbook)
    • Handle all animals humanely.
    • Do not set traps when the Heat Index is expected to be over 90 degrees.

    Safety:

    • Maintain quality results by adhering to company standards.
    • Maintain safe work habits by following company and OSHA standards.
    • Applying product to structures according to schedule, safety procedures and label instructions.

    Equipment Maintenance:

    • Operate and maintain service vehicle and equipment

    Planning:

    • Plan service calls by checking service contract schedule; organizing driving routes; arranging and confirming daily appointments.

    Customer Service:

    • Resolve customer dissatisfaction by investigating complaints; identifying solutions
    • Communicate with customers to ensure satisfaction and discuss additional services that meet customer needs for a complete pest management programs.
    • Serve as a problem solver for your customer by utilizing the in-depth training provided to decide on the most efficient and best overall pest solution for each customer's needs
    • Work effectively with the customer to assess their needs
    • Address customer questions and concerns
    • Provide final job estimate
    • Provide superior pest management services to our clients

    Inspection and Restoration

    • Inspect buildings and the surrounding environment for signs of pest infestation or pests, locate the source of activity and provide written explanations and recommendations
    • Enter detailed notes and photographs into Service Bridge
    • Collect customer signatures as necessary
    • Measure and document area to be treated and restored

     

    SKILL/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 

    Required:

    • Physical stamina to work in periodically harsh conditions as the nature of the job demands., 
    • Good customer service skills and be customer focused
    • Strong ability to keep good records of hours worked, chemicals used, and payment collected
    • Ability to obtain and maintain licenses/certificates as required by federal, state and local regulation
    • Demonstrate excellent communication skills as you interact with customers, office staff, and service managers.
    • Operate a company vehicle safely and ensure cleanliness of the vehicle and equipment
    • Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

    Note:  Must pass pre-employment background screen and drug test

    Preferred:

    • Relevant training and/or experience in a similar role is a plus. (Paid training for right candidate)
    • Expertise and training in pesticide safety and use.
    • Knowledge about a wide variety of pests and up-to-date with current industrial practice.

    Personal Characteristics:

    • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
    • Must have good time and process management skills
    • Must be trustworthy as duties are mostly discharged without the physical presence of the client
    • Must have good organizational skills
    • Ability to work well independently and part of a team
    • Able to follow detailed instructions in applying pesticide to avoid harm to the client and self
    • Must possess a team spirit and be able to work well in a team environment.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, and possess good interpersonal skills
    • Must have good customer service skills with the ability to de-escalate situations in which the customer is unhappy and possibly upset.

    Education:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • At least 2 years of customer service experience
    • Ability to obtain and maintain licenses/certificates as required by federal, state and local regulations
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, including, but not limited to monthly courses pertinent to the industry.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Riding in a car for periods of time. Bending, kneeling and crawling into tight spaces to carry out site inspections.  Requires standing for a long period of time. Work with pesticides (training and protective equipment to ensure safety). Wearing a mask, safety glasses, hat, gloves, long sleeves, long pants, and boots in all temperatures.  Climbing ladders and walking roofs to inspect and treat problem areas.

     

    TRAVEL

    Some local travel required.  Must have a valid driver’s license and have and maintain a driving record acceptable to our insurance company.
