Numerical Control Technician constructs, maintains, and tests numerically controlled machinery. Inspects equipment to ensure proper functioning. Being a Numerical Control Technician selects appropriate tools and determines best strategy for operations. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Additionally, Numerical Control Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Numerical Control Technician gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision. Performs in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and all other applicable requirements. Works under the general supervision of a quality control manager or supervisor, or other manager.

- Inspects and/or tests parts or products being fabricated, assembled, welded or otherwise manufactured to assure compliance with quality standards.
- Documents inspections and tests.
- Accepts or rejects material or assemblies not conforming to design specifications or approved deviations.
- Inspects purchased parts and specialty items from supplier and sets up disposition procedures for unacceptable material.
- Consults with engineering for alternate methods and/or brings to attention of production supervision in cases of product problem areas or faulty workmanship.
- Maintains records and files pertaining to quality control/inspection of products.
- Good knowledge of detail and assembly drawings used in manufacturing processes. Good knowledge of codes, standards and regulations applicable to focus of manufacturing area assigned. Ability to use tools, gages, measuring devices and test equipment necessary for the inspection process. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to interface well with plant supervisors, managers and customer quality assurance personnel.
- Completion of a standard high school education supplemented or including course work in drafting, applied mathematics or industrial technology and considerable to extensive experience in manufacturing processes; or any equivalent combination of education and training which results in the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
