Being a Numerical Control Technician selects appropriate tools and determines best strategy for operations. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Additionally, Numerical Control Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Numerical Control Technician gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision.     Monday-Friday. 7:00am - 3:30pm (Residential Operations)

    Monday-Friday, 5:30am - 2:00pm (Facilities Management)

    Residential Operations is part of Housing, Dining, and Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE). Residential Operations maintains properties consisting of residence halls, single student apartments, family student apartments, and dining commons serving over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff.     Brief Summary of Job Duties

    Using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, the technician provides safe, effective, and efficient services to multiple locations. Services include the treatment of nuisance animals, insects, and weeds. These locations include, but not limited to the following: student and family housing, child care facilities, museums, research facilities, libraries, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports and other auxiliaries.

    Required Qualifications

    • 1-3 years experience performing Integrative Pest Management for a licensed business or public institution.
    • Must have the skills, knowledge, and ability to use the practices of Integrated Pest Management to provide safe, effective, and efficient pest management to various campus entities.
    • Expert knowledge of the latest pest management techniques, including pest biology and identification, sanitation, exclusion, education,habitat modification, pest prevention building design, wildlife management, pesticide safety, and least toxic pesticides.
    • Knowledgeable in techniques to solve pest problems in sensitive campus environments, including research laboratories, animal facilities,museums, and rare book collections, without affecting data or collections.
    • Knowledgeable of county, state, and federal regulations regarding application, storage, and use of pesticides.
    • Works independently in a responsible manner and cooperatively in a group setting.
    • Must possess a valid California DPR Qualified Applicator's License or Certificate Category A, or a California Structural Branch 2 license. Must also maintain licenses through the accumulation of the required CEU's, respective to each license.
    • Must be available to respond to emergencies, work on-call, rotating swing shift and holidays.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • High School Diploma.
    • Knowledge and/or training in bed bug identification and control.

    Special Conditions of Employment

    • May work shifts other than Monday thru Friday in order to meet the operational needs of the department.
    • Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employee Pull-Notice Program.
    • Satisfactory conviction history background check.

Works closely with clients to provide advice for resolving or preventing future pest problems in the areas of concern (such as sanitation, storage, exclusion, and other methods of control and prevention. Ensures routine, quality service is provided to clients and verifies client satisfaction by providing inspections and contacting managers and other appropriate individuals. Advises crafts personnel and building managers of structural modification measures to exclude pests. Accumulates the required CEUs to maintain a QAL or QAC Category A or Structural Branch 2 license and to maintain a working knowledge of pest management practices by attending training seminars, reading information provided, and other sources. Provides backup for other pest management technicians as needed.70%
    2Administrative DutiesPlans/schedules pest management duties for the week. Generates accurate and timely records using the appropriate forms; this includes timesheets and inspection report forms. The latter should include the date and time the service was provided, inspection findings, control measures applied including all chemicals and amounts used, and to whom the client copy of the service record was given.30%
