    Position Summary – Our Nurse Practitioners, acting under the supervision, and in conjunction with their collaborative practice physician, have a multifaceted role which includes direct patient care, consultation, surgical assisting, and education. Minimum 2 years of NP/PA experience required.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities – The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Duties are carried out in compliance with applicable state law and statutes that govern the advanced practice nurse practitioners scope of practice and in accordance with the current collaborative practice agreement.
    • Manage and direct patient care for pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative patients in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.
    • Assist during surgical procedures according to granted medical staff privileges granted and under supervision of the surgeon.
    • Utilize advanced clinical skills and knowledge to assess patients and manage all aspect of care, including ordering of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to standardized procedures/protocols. Prescribe medications in accordance with physician approved medication protocols.
    • Work collaboratively with physicians and other clinical staff to ensure that continuity of care is maintained in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
    • Support/educate clinical staff regarding patient goals and treatment strategies.
    • Provide afterhours call coverage with physicians during the week and on weekends on a rotating basis.
    • Perform and manage post-operative and/or injection clinic duties, when appropriately trained.
    • Triage patient calls and take appropriate action or refer to appropriate physician or office staff member.
    • Regularly participates in constant quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care.
    • Enhance professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
    Specifications/Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) – Must meet credentialing requirements for medical staff privileges at facilities as appropriate. Successful candidates need to be independent thinkers, flexible, organized, hard-working and able to work well with others in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment. Ability to assess situations, resolve within scope of ability, or escalate as appropriate. Commitment to personal excellence and ongoing professional development.
    Typical Physical Demands – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Nurse Practitioner will travel between practice office and surgical site locations. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanic techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc.

    Education – Graduate of an accredited school of nursing resulting in an advanced practice nurse degree.
    Work Experience – Experience in orthopaedic practice setting preferred. EPIC experience preferred. Be proficiently skilled in EMR documentation. Surgical first assist experience is a plus.
    License and Board Certification - Current, active, and unrestricted registered nurse and nurse practitioner license from the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Current and active board certification from American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Current American Heart Association BLS Certification required. Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS preferred.

    • Ensures that records are stored securely and handled in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations, as applicable

    • Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities
    • Maintains responsibility for safe work area by reporting to safety officer or designee observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance

    • Reports observed or suspected medical emergencies, notifies appropriate personnel, and responds appropriately
    • Identifies facility emergency situations (e.g., fire, disaster) and notifies appropriate personnel and external agencies

    • Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations and/or maintains certification with relevant certifying body
