Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal works in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of newborn patients. Provides care for newborns and infants in a neonatal setting. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a physician. Requires Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in specialty area based on RN licensure and state authority for advanced practice. Education: Graduate Degree required. Graduate of Accredited Nurse Practitioner Program; M.S.in Nursing or Graduate of Accredited Physician Assistant Program; Masters of Medical Science.
Experience: Minimum of two yrs in high risk neonatal care exp required
Licensure/Certification/Registration: RN license currently licensed in NC, approved to practice as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in NC By Board of Nursing and NC Board of Medical Examiners; Certified by NCC;OR currently licensed by NC Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant; Certified by NCCPA required.
Additional Skills Required: Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
Additional Skills Preferred: Physical requirements: Stand and move around majority of the day; climb (to reach patient care equipment); lift patients and equipment; push/pull wheelchairs, carts and beds; sit occasionally; bend and stoop; manual dexterity; run; negotiate stairs; see, hear, speak, smell, and touch.
