Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal works in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of newborn patients. Provides care for newborns and infants in a neonatal setting. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a physician. Requires Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in specialty area based on RN licensure and state authority for advanced practice.     APRN-driven newborn nursery care in a Level I maternity center.  ~360 annual deliveries. Experienced, NRP-competent L&D RN staff who appreciate teaching opportunities. APRN will attend high risk deliveries when requested; provide assessment, stabilization, and potential transfer of the occasional unstable neonate.  APRN will provide stable neonates with routine newborn assessment and management of common conditions such as: the late preterm infant, prevention and treatment  of neonatal GBS and other congenital infections, hypoglycemia, neonatal jaundice, drug exposure and management of NAS.  Collaboration and back up from Neonatologist 24/7.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Exceedingly comfortable and skilled in delivery hospital neonatal resuscitation; excellent communication skills with L&D staff and families, strong desire to teach, collaborative approach to patient care.

     

    Provides healthcare to individuals or groups that requires knowledge and skill obtained from advanced formal education, certification and clinical experience.

    Practices within professional scope and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the profession's Code of Ethics and maintains a current Ohio Advanced License.

    Responsibilities

    Assesses patients and/or populations; develops, implements and evaluates plans of care; clearly documents and communicates information both in written and verbal forms.

    Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established guidelines and standards as necessary for the care of the patient.

    Utilizing evidence based practice, serves as a clinical expert for policies, procedures, documentation, and skills.

    Assists in the education, training and development of new and existing staff members. 

    Engages in the community of the work unit by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, engages in Quality Improvement.

    Leverages technology and informatics to optimize healthcare outcomes. 

    Commits to continued professional development of self and others.

    Contributes to the division and/or specialty goals and the Hospital Strategic Plan.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION: Master of Science degree or equivalent provision.

    LICENSURE: Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of Ohio.

    CERTIFICATIONS: Maintains national certification as APRN in the appropriate population foci for the position, or PA

     

    MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement.

    Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit. Sitting Talking on phone/in person Typing on a keyboard Standing/walking.
