Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Care works in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of patient's medical type such as psychiatric, oncology or obstetrics. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Care prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Requires a master's degree. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Care typically reports to a physician. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) in specialty area based on RN licensure and state authority for advanced practice. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides competent and compassionate medical care and documents all patient interactions in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR).
Electronically documents adherence to the health maintenance/screening guidelines found in Care Resources Manual of Clinical Care Guidelines, with particular attention to those required for UDS and meaningful use reporting
Committed to maintaining productivity standards set by management by ensuring appointments slots are filled.
Electronically reviews and signs off on laboratory results and other patient related information in a timely fashion.
Electronically reviews and authorizes prescription refills (when appropriate) in a timely fashion.
Electronically reviews and authorizes Specialist follow up referrals (when appropriate) in a timely fashion.
Electronically enters Charges related to patient care in EHR.
Provides medical cross coverage within own medical specialty as required. Internal medicine PCPs will only cross cover with Family Practice for adult and adolescent patients.
If necessary, when on call, securely accesses patients’ records using the policy “Access to Patients Electronic Health Records Outside the Agency”.
If necessary, completes documentation after hours in patients’ charts securely accessing patients’ records according to policy “Access to Patients Electronic Health Records Outside the Agency”.
Promotes Agency’s ancillary services (i.e. Nutrition, Dental, Psychosocial, Specialty Care) when clinically indicated and appropriate.
Completes all required documents/forms on behalf of patients.
Assists with completion of monthly Medical Quality Assurance assessments (QA records review)
Meets with CMO/Medical Director to staff cases, discuss procedures and quality assurance.
Conducts special projects as assigned and related to the operations of the Medical Care Programs.
Completes all required trainings (i.e., NetSmart)
Participates in agency developmental activities as requested.

Education:
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with Nurse Practitioner concentration from a nationally accredited program.
Training and Experience:
Family or Adult Medicine Practice experience is required, including gynecology. At least two years of experience in a diverse clinical work focused on the LGBT population is highly preferred. Experience in clinical work with HIV infected persons specifically men who have sex with men (MSM) is highly recommended. HIV/AIDS medical training/certifications are preferred. Substance abuse treatment experience preferred. Maintaining 30 hours CME in HIV every 2 years may be required.
Licenses and/or certifications:
Florida License, Board certification (ANCC/AANP)
Job Knowledge and Skills:
Bilingual (English-Spanish or English-Creole) is preferred. Computer knowledge should include NextGen (internal training provided), Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Excellent organizational, communication, problem solving and teamwork skills are required to provide adequate treatment to patients, make referrals to appropriate specialists for diagnostic purposes and prioritize patient care issues and standards of care. Demonstrated knowledge along with the ability to work within an LGBT-friendly, multicultural and diverse population is required. Sensitivity and knowledge of the LGBT community is highly recommended.

Own transportation may be required.
