Nurse Supervisor - Phone Triage supervises the day-to-day operations and coordinates activities of nursing teams in a nurse triage call center.     Performs tasks that involve exposure or potential exposure to blood, body fluids or body tissue, or other potentially contaminated materials.

    SUMMARY:

    The purpose of this position is to collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff to implement patient care. Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; and identifying system improvements.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

    Works under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Operations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES:

    • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
    • Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
    • Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff and following up on work results.
    • Promotes patients’ independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching and counseling patients, friends, and family to reinforce their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.
    • Provides information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests.
    • Resolves patients’ needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures, rules, and regulations, and by calling for assistance from other health care professionals.
    • Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols, and by enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
    • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
    • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
    • Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, requesting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
    • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies, and approving requisitions and cost allocations.
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
    • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and participating in team problem-solving methods.
    • Manage the Texas Vaccines for Children Vaccine and Adult Safety Net Programs.
    • Assist in the collection and processing of blood fluid specimens as per physician orders.
    • Taking notes during patient visits and documenting them in the electronic health records system
    • Learning about the medical process and using a team approach in patient supervision and documentation
    • Working with a supervising Physician or Doctor to complete and submit medical records
    • Communicating with patients and supervising Physicians professionally
    • Completing all administrative tasks efficiently and helping the Physician take tests and give out medication

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

    Graduate from an approved nursing program and/or technical school

    Must be licensed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse by the State of Texas or in another state that is recognized by reciprocity.

    An ideal candidate would have twelve months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Experience with medical terminology preferred.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    A responsible and mature individual with a passion for medicine. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word & Excel. Must be able to work under conditions of constant interruption and be able to stay on task.

    Ability to participate effectively as a team member. Willingness to work a flexible schedule when circumstances necessitate. Knowledge of primary care and HIV medicine. Commitment to team approach to patient services. Commitment to patient education. Commitment to the purpose and goals of Westbrook Clinic and agreement with Westbrook Clinic’s philosophy.

    Ability to speak fluent English; ability to handwrite legibly; ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

    State of Texas Class “C” Driver’s License. Employee must maintain all certifications, licenses and/or registrations consistent with Westbrook Clinic policy and Texas State Law.

    Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish.

    Flexibility to travel, if needed.

    EQUIPMENT USED:

    Working knowledge of thermometers, EKG machine, Glucometer, Defibrillator, and blood pressure machine. Requires frequent use of personal computer, including word processing and spreadsheet programs; telephone, copy machine, fax machine, and automotive vehicle.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    A constitution to work under the rigors of delivering medical care. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time as well as sit and talk or listen.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Work is predominantly performed in an office setting where the noise level is usually quiet.
