Nursing Assistant assists nursing team with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort, and safety of patients. Assists patients in dressing, undressing, bathing, eating, walking, and other activities. Being a Nursing Assistant ensures patients' well-being and comfort. Changes bed linens and assists with patient transportation to tests and procedures. Additionally, Nursing Assistant may serve and collect food trays and provide patients with between-meal nourishment. May record temperature or vital signs under the direction of a nurse. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a registered nurse or supervisor. The Nursing Assistant works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Under direction of DON, develops schedules and assignments of nursing personnel to ensure delivery of safe and quality resident care on a 24-hour basis.
Develops master cycle schedule and posts two (2) weeks in advance.
Update any changes to master schedule and communicates changes to Charge Nurse, units, and DON.
Reviews daily schedules and initiates replacement calls.
Copies and distributes schedules to assigned units.
Monitors and documents absences and tardiness and reports problems to DON.
Responsible for completion and verification of time sheets for submission to payroll.
Supply Functions
Assists with facility inventory management and cost containment by appropriate use of supplies and charging of supplies.
Maintains and adjusts unit par supply levels as needed.
Monitors supplies and equipment use.
Maintains inventory of equipment.
Places orders for supplies with Purchasing Coordinator on routine basis and follows up on deliveries and back orders.
Monitor usage of supplies to ensure efficiency and avoid waste of supplies and equipment.
Processes charges/credits for equipment/supplies and tracks billing inquires as necessary.
Administrative Functions
Assist with clerical/secretarial responsibilities of Nursing Department such as answering phone, taking messages, using the page system, operating the copier, computer, office machines, and fax as directed.
Assist in tracking nursing quality assurance program by summarizing pertinent data as directed.
Relieves Receptionist for breaks and performs cashier duties as directed.
Provides clerical support for Nursing Services, i.e., typing, reports, correspondences, copying, filing, etc.
Participates in his/her own evaluation process by providing self-evaluation and written goals.
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Prior employment experience as unit clerk and/or clerical work in long-term care and/or acute setting preferred.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology and nursing practice and staff scheduling.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
