Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Additionally, Nursing Director requires an advanced degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management. General Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) manages the organization, development, management, and administration of day-to-day nursing activities. The DON maintains nursing service goals, objectives, and standards of nursing practice; adheres to staffing plans; and nursing department policies and procedures in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The DON is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospitals.
Patient Population: Delivers direct patient care appropriate to the patients served. The ages of the patients served are adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older).

Requirements
Supervision: Supervises the function and the employees of the Nursing Department.
Experience: Two to five years of nursing experience in an acute/critical care environment setting including previous supervisory experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in an approved Registered Nurse program. Master's preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current Registered Nurse license in the state where practicing is required. Current BLS certification is required and ACLS certification is required within six (6) months of hire. The Director of Nursing must maintain current licensure, BLS and ACLS certifications while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.
