With the recent renovations and new management at Preferred Care Cumberland the Director of Nursing will assist in leading the clinical team for the 196 bed facility which includes short term and long term residents. Preferred Care Cumberland currently has Four Star ratings in Quality Measures with a focus on exceptional nursing care and nursing outcomes. Director of Nursing (DON) Responsibilities:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for, coordinating, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the nursing service department as well as its programs and activities in accordance with current rules and regulations and guidelines that govern the nursing care facilities.

• Develop and implement the written staffing plan that reflects the needs of the department
• Performs rounds to monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, family members, staff, and medical team
• Work in partnership with the Administrator to ensure quality, person-centered care
• Develop, manage, and evaluate department policies and procedures in accordance with current rules and regulations.

Director of Nursing (DON) Requirements:

• A minimum of two years of experience in long term care nursing management
• At least 2 years nursing managerial experience required.
• Must possess a valid unencumbered, RN State License.
• Nursing degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
• Must have experience in supervision and principles, the practice of teaching, etc.
• Experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices is strongly preferred.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
• Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
• Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
