Nursing Director - Nursing Home administers the nursing program in a nursing home in order to maintain standards of patient care. Advises management, patient care staff and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Being a Nursing Director - Nursing Home recommends establishment or revision of policies and develops organizational structure and standards of performance. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Additionally, Nursing Director - Nursing Home typically requires an advanced degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management or a facility administrator. Requires RN license. The Nursing Director - Nursing Home typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Nursing Director - Nursing Home typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The Activities Director is responsible for directing and supervising the activities program. The Activities Director is responsible for assessing each resident and developing a program, which includes individual and group activities, that meets the resident’s needs and desires. The Activity Director is a member of the interdisciplinary care plan team and is responsible for completing a portion of the MDS.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    · Plan, direct and participate in individual, small and large group activities, both in and out of the facility

    · Create a home-like atmosphere in the health care facility

    · Post activities well in advance, make substitutions when necessary, and publicize programs among the residents and personnel

    · Give service to the residents by reading and writing letters, running errands when possible, etc.

    · Maintain data on resident contacts, reactions, and capacity to participate. Record appropriate entries on nurses’ progress notes and MDS. Complete activities assessments and progress notes upon admission and update at least quarterly

    · Consult with appropriate staff member regarding residents

    · Recruit, classify, schedule and train volunteers to assist in the activities

    · Maintain a cross-reference file of sources, people and organizations contacted for help and/or availability and to provide entertainment

    · Assist in maintaining a reference library of activities materials

    · Provide material monthly for the facility’s newsletter

    · Serve as coordinator for the Residents’ Council.

    · Develop specific, clearly defined health service objectives that are practical and flexible to meet the needs of each resident.

    · Prepare periodic reports showing progress, success or failure of activities utilized and projected plans.

    · Have friendly visits with the residents and their families

    · Order supplies through the proper channel, properly store supplies and maintain equipment in good working condition

    · Read widely in the field of recreational and group activities and network with similar institutions for suggestions on programs

    · Inform the Administrator of programs

    · Schedule specific activities

    · Participate in regularly scheduled care conferences by being prepared in advance and adding pertinent data to the care plan as it relates to activities

    · Participate in the admission process by doing timely assessments

    · Support and assist residents in continuing to be involved in community activities

    · Serve as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee, monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of the care provided by activities.

    · Perform any other duties that may be directed by the Administrator
