POSITION OVERVIEW
This Nutrition Coordinator role will manage efficient and effective food service operations and compliance. This role will be responsible for menu planning, menu analysis, cost control, addressing special dietary accommodations, developing and implementing nutrition education and promotion activities, ensuring compliance with Federal and State regulations related to student health and wellness, and staff training and monitoring. They will also maintain program product quality controls, and compliance. Assists with recall activity, and product complaints.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists the Food Service Director in the management of the food service programs, including staff training, maintenance of school menu’s and product implementation
- Plans, develops, and creates menus that meet nutritional USDA program requirements.
- Maintains and develops all menus online on school website
- Assists with maintaining program cost controls, product quality controls, and compliance with federal, state, and local government regulations.
- Manages special dietary form requests and accommodations in accordance with all State and Federal requirements.
- Assists the Food Service Director in the management of the USDA Foods and Department of Defense (DOD) Programs as it relates to commodity processing, menu planning and ordering.
- Collaborates with school staff and other stakeholders in the development, implementation, observation and evaluation of all student and school health and wellness policies.
- Oversees compliance with all non-program food and beverage sales, including fundraisers and other related activities.
- Monitors and oversees accuracy of all school sites’ records of meals prepared, meals served, and inventories of food.
- Conducts education sessions, taste tests and recipe development with student groups.
- Works directly with food vendors weekly to ensure product availability and appropriate substitutions are made in the event products are out of stock.
- Proactively handles all recall activity and product complaints.
- Maintains open communication with the Food Service Director and Cafeteria Managers on issues that may affect the general operation of the food service program.
- Develops and implements nutrition education and promotion activities.
- Analyze reports related to bids, vendors and item usage.
- Estimate usage for the yearly bid based on current usage and menu.
- Ensures that Cafeteria Managers and Staff are preparing high quality meals that are served efficiently, ready to serve to meet schedules set by the school sites, and in sufficient quantities to provide choices to all student and adult customers.
- Assists in the development, implementation and management of school break menu’s for LKC and Preschool Programs.
- Conducts menu product evaluations and makes recommendations for changes and improvements in procedures, products, supplies and equipment.
- Meet with manufacturers, brokers and vendors to find new products for the menu.
- Continues to attend professional development opportunities and maintain all appropriate certifications.
- Encourages employee professional growth by actively participating in the School Nutrition Association of Arizona.
- Attends meetings, workshops and in-service trainings.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Certification/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field, required.
- 3 or more years of child nutrition experience, required
- Currently a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian eligible, preferred.
- Certified Food Safety Manager, required.
- School Nutrition Specialist credential, preferred.
- Must have advanced knowledge of National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and Summer Feeding guidelines.

BACKGROUND CHECKS
- The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
- Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
- This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
- This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.
