Nursing Education Director leads and directs the overall planning, development, and administration of nursing education programs. Oversees the design and implementation of curriculums to train and update skills and knowledge of in-service nurses. Being a Nursing Education Director evaluates the department's performance and ensures that all federal and state regulatory requirements are met. Requires a master's degree in nursing. Additionally, Nursing Education Director requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to senior management. The Nursing Education Director manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. To be a Nursing Education Director typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience.     As a senior member of the clinical leadership team, the Director of Nursing allows for the opportunity to create a positive impact on the lives of those we care for and work with.

    Reporting directly to the Nursing Home Administrator, the Director of Nursing carries the following traits and responsibilities:

    • Knowledge of Long-Term Care Regulations

    • Promotes an atmosphere of respect, professional growth, and encouragement for all nursing staff members; Creates a positive, encouraging, and educational environment for Team Members.

    • Directs and implements a continuous Quality Improvement program for nursing

    • Recognizes areas requiring improvement and uses successful methodology to identify and implement change

    • Plans for appraisal of nursing care by making rounds, conducting a regular review of resident's records, and evaluating resident care.

    • Participates in implementing an effective system of clinical and administrative nursing records and reports

    • Models exemplary customer service towards Team Members and Residents.

    • Understands and monitors the nursing turnover on a monthly basis and recommends/implements changes to reduce turnover, where possible.

    • Develops and maintains nursing service objectives and standards of nursing practice, develops nursing policies and procedures and reviews/revises job descriptions for nursing personnel.

    • Mentors ADON and Unit Managers to ensure that they are appropriately and effectively managing their unit.

    • Oversees the quality of services provided to Residents and is responsible for the nursing quality improvement initiatives and programs.

    • Ensures that the Team Member disciplinary process is fair and consistent and used appropriately.

    • Establishes procedures for the administration and control of medications in consultation with Quality Standards of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Committee.

    • Responsible for completion of forms for state and federal requirements, including Medicare.

    • Performs duties of staff nurse, if needed and is on-call for emergencies that supervisory personnel cannot handle; Provides supervisory support to all shifts.

    • Serves as a professional and educational resource and provides structured coaching/mentoring activities

    • Develops ongoing in-service training programs in conjunction with staff educator

    The Director of Nursing is expected to hold a high degree of clinical expertise, as well as the ability to envision creative solutions for today’s clinical and operational challenges in the ever-changing environment of senior services. In addition to the necessary education, clinical background and skill, the successful candidate must be decisive and results oriented, working together across all clinical disciplines and business lines to improve outcomes. The ability to simultaneously serve as a strategic partner to the management team and a nursing leader to nursing staff is also critical to maintain successful performance and the standard of quality known at Seton Manor.

    Qualifications:

    • Licensed Registered Nurse; BSN/BS in Nursing (preferred)
    • 3 years of progressive nursing leadership within a SNF/LTC (preferred)
    • Experience in geriatric nursing or gerontology and dementia care (preferred).
