Surgery Center Manager with Clinical Experience
Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Newport Beach is seeking a Surgery Center Manager with Clinical Experience to run its center. Although prior ASC management experience is preferred, this is also an ideal opportunity for the experienced ASC nurse looking to advance their career and transition into a management role.
As the Surgery Center Manager you will be responsible for all surgery center functions including train and supervise staff, act as liaison between all entities within the facility, ensure protocols and procedures are followed for maintenance of accreditation. Additionally, this position will be required to provide clinical nursing within the center along side other full-time nurses and per diem staff.
ALL CANDIDATES MUST HAVE:
- Minimum 3-‐5 years experience in clinical nursing, preferably a surgery center.
- ASC management experience (including charge nurse) preferred, but also open to energetic, hard working, team oriented individual looking to take a first step in ASC management
- Current California RN License
ASC Manager Responsibilities: 50% of time
- Responsible for the quality of the care provided within the center. Oversees daily center operations and delegates authority to assigned staff
- Assists staff in developing and implementing short-term and long-term work plans and objectives for center’s clinical and clerical functions
- Assists staff in understanding/implementing clinic policies and procedures
- Develops guidelines for prioritizing work activities, evaluating effectiveness, and modifying activities as necessary.
- Ensures that center is staffed appropriately. This includes (but not limited to) nursing care, scrub techs, clerical and reception staff, and x-ray technologists
- Overall human resource management. Actively involved and oversees the recruiting, hiring, orientation, development, and evaluation of these clerical and clinical staff. Includes overseeing of the qualifications of the staff and allied health professionals through credentialing
- Establishes and maintains an efficient and responsive patient flow system
- Oversees and approves center supply inventory, material management, ensures that mail is opened and processed, and center is opened and closed according to procedures
- Supports and upholds established policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control, and codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
- Work with billing company to ensure billing and coding completed accurately and timely
- Coordinates with the multiple entities utilizing center to ensure each has necessary staff, equipment, and supplies. Ensures efficient scheduling and patient flow for these multiple entities
- Allocates all of staffs time to each entity within the center on a daily and weekly basis for accurate payroll invoices
Clinical Nursing Responsibilities: 50% of time
- Able to provide pre-operative, circulating/intra-operative, as well as complete post-operative patient care as needed for the center.
- Can provide conscious sedation under the direction of physician.
- Conducts pre‐visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment with recent test results and correspondence and determines needed services per practice protocol
- Confers with physician regarding any incomplete patient tests/consults or other incomplete orders prior to patient visit, and after patient visit to complete chart
- Prepares and maintains center including pre-operative, post-operative and operating rooms
- Cleans equipment and maintains proper order of the stock room
- Prepares patients for procedures by escorting them from the waiting area to the pre-operative area and taking histories and vital signs
- Places IV’s, delivers pre- medications; assists with exams and office procedures as needed
- Maintains medication records, administers medication upon physician order and responds to medication requests per practice protocol
- Prepares and maintains clinical supplies and equipment
- Triages and responds to patient communications within practice policy
- Assists the scheduler with scheduling patients, assists in facilitating pre- certification for ASC procedures
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations
- Creates, maintains, copies and files patient files, records and other information as needed. Ensures charts are completed, scanned, and uploaded in a timely manner
- Compiles and condenses technical and statistical data for reports and records
- Maintains strict confidentiality
- Treats staff, physicians, visitors and patients with dignity and respect
- Performs other related work as required
Knowledge:
- Healthcare field, with special knowledge of Ambulatory Surgery Centers
- Medical terminology, ICD‐10 codes, and third party billing procedures
- Knowledge of EMRs
- Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
- Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
- Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in clinical nursing, preferably a surgery center
- ASC management experience (including charge nurse) preferred, but also open to energetic, hard working, team-oriented individual looking to take a first step in ASC management
- Current California RN License
- Must possess current CPR certification
- Knowledge in all aspects of ASC operations and duties of associated staff including reception, appointments, medical records, nursing, inventory, x-ray and clinical support staff, medical assistants
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively relate to each position to ensure strong team oriented environment
- Strong clerical/administrative skills including computer skills
- Knowledge of insurance programs
- Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation and current vehicle insurance
- Ability to analyze, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, climb, stoop, and lift and carry up to 20 pounds
