Nursing Services Instructor is responsible for identifying training needs and planning, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of staff development programs within an assigned area of responsibility. Coordinates in-service training, continuing education, orientation, competency reviews, and other related training functions. Being a Nursing Services Instructor ensures compliance with all State and Federal guidelines for in-service education and new employee orientation. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Nursing Services Instructor requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Qualifications:
Instructional Duties: The teaching function is the primary function of an instructional staff member at the University of Rio Grande, as such, the instructional staff member will be held accountable for the teaching obligation as it contributes to the attainment of the mission of the institution.
Duties required of the instructional staff:
A. The faculty shall assume responsibility for the classes/courses assigned to them.
B. The faculty shall develop a course syllabus for each class assigned to them; distribute the same to class members, post it on canvas and file copies with the Director of the MSN Program. The syllabus will include:
1. The title of the course.
2. The number of theory hours, if applicable.
3. The number of laboratory hours, if applicable.
4. The number of clinical hours, if applicable.
5. The course description.
6. The course objectives or outcomes.
7. The teaching strategies.
8. The methods of evaluation; and
9. The required textbooks and other bibliographies of learning resources.
C. The faculty shall teach each class assigned to him/her within the framework of the mission of the University and the syllabus of the class.
D. The faculty shall design and implement teaching strategies that will assist a nursing student to meet the course objectives or outcomes.
E. The faculty shall assist the students to explore their career goals.
F. The faculty shall assist students in scheduling courses to meet their educational goals.
G. The faculty shall work with areas of concern for students when the areas relate to the student’s academic program, and work with the particular level of the concern, if the faculty member believes that he/she is competent in working with the particular level.
H. The faculty shall work with the student to plan the student’s clinical experience and evaluate the student’s performance.
I. The faculty shall assign clinical nursing experiences based on course objectives and student learning needs.
J. The faculty shall supervise student practice by providing guidance, direction, and support appropriate to the clinical situation.
K. The faculty shall establish clinical objectives or outcomes within the framework of the course in which the student is enrolled.
L. The faculty shall communicate clinical objectives or outcomes to:
a.) the student.
b.) the teaching assistant and preceptor, if utilized.
c.) the assigned preceptor at the clinical site.
M. The faculty shall provide for orientation of each student to the clinical site, including an introduction to staff.
N. The faculty shall make assignments, in conjunction with the preceptor or teaching assistant, if utilized, for the student’s experience, consistent with specific objectives or outcomes of the course in which the student is enrolled.
O. The faculty shall provide for supervision of each nursing student in accordance with Ohio Board of Nursing Rule.
P. The faculty shall evaluate the student’s experience, achievement, and progress in relation to the clinical objectives or outcomes, with input from the teaching assistant or preceptor, if utilized.
Q. The faculty shall assign an observational experience if required and as appropriate to meet course objectives.
R. The faculty shall participate in professional development programs with prior approval from the Director of the MSN Program.
S. The faculty shall attend departmental meetings
Administrative Duties of the Instructional Staff
A. The faculty shall assist in revisions of the college curriculum as assigned by the Director of MSN Program, and serve on departmental committees for developing, reviewing, and evaluating the curriculum.
B. The faculty shall evaluate enrolled students and submit results of grades according to the University policy to the Records Office in accordance with pre-established timetables.
C. The faculty shall submit attendance records according to the University policy to the Records Office in accordance with pre-established timetables.
D. The faculty shall submit a list of materials needed for the course objectives, including textbooks, supplies, equipment, and supplemental instructional materials, to the Director and other appropriate offices in accordance with pre-established timetables.
E. The faculty member shall assume his/her proportionate share of responsibility for University committee assignments and co-curricular activities, as designated by the Director of the MSN Program.
F. The faculty shall become knowledgeable of the use and care of educational media and shall cooperate in establishing and maintaining the resources of the college.
G. The faculty shall become familiar with the services of the library and other support services of the University and shall use them in professional activities or direct students to them as their needs arise.
H. The faculty shall participate in the peer evaluation process.
