Nursing Supervisor supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel in patient care units. Participates in planning work of assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments. Being a Nursing Supervisor ensures that patients' needs are met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance. Monitors patient recordkeeping activities for accuracy, completion and compliance with all regulations. Additionally, Nursing Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree of nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires certification as a registered nurse (RN). The Nursing Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Nursing Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Job Purpose:
To supervise day-to-day nursing functions of an assigned area to include functioning as a Charge Nurse in providing nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with the standards of nursing practices and regulations, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing or Nursing Department Managers.
Essential job Duties and Responsibilities:
Unit Supervision:
Supervise other professional and non-professional staff in the day-to-day delivery of Resident Care. Schedule job assignments and develop Nursing Unit priorities. May orientate new staff, and participate in recruitment and selection of nursing staff, communicate policies, assist and coach as needed. Monitor work assignments, provide feedback, evaluate performance and redirect and discipline as needed.
Nursing Care Function:
Prepare and review medical records and nurse’s notes and assess residents to observe and evaluate their physical and emotional status. Monitor resident activity, evaluate nursing care in accordance with professional standards, and provide nursing care according to physician’s orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies. Coordinate and assist or prepare for new admissions, transfers, and discharge of residents. Transcribe physician’s telephone orders. Communicate with Residents’ family members, other interdisciplinary team members and management regarding resident status.
Drug Administration & Documentation Functions:
Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician; in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies. Sign, date and perform all charting and record keeping in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Resident Rights:
Ensure understanding of and compliance with all rules regarding Residents’ rights.

Assist and participate in developing and implementing a written care plan for individual residents that addresses the needs of the resident.
Staff Development:
Participate in in-service training, assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training, maintains professional competence.
Safety and Sanitation:
Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance of established safety, fire and disaster, infection control and ensure all other departmental policies and procedures are followed; and to ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas

Qualifications:
Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State. Must be CPR Certified.
Completion of secondary education or otherwise able to read and write in legible and understandable manner.
Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and work cooperatively with other associates.
Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Experience as a Charge Nurse or supervisory experience preferred.
