QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires the knowledge of quantity food preparation principles and methods; Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and local, state and federal safety regulations; equipment utilization, maintenance and repair; food purchasing, warehousing and distribution principles and practices for purchased and USDA donated food; recipe development, catering practices, effective use of USDA commodities; management, supervision and training techniques; knowledge of federal and state child nutrition program regulations; financial recordkeeping, budgeting procedures, and analysis of food and labor costs; advanced use of personal and mainframe computers, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Publisher, computerized menu planning software and computer applications.
Must possess the skill to assure proper fiscal management, program compliance, nutrition standards, staff development and marketing strategies; communicate effectively both orally and in writing to individuals of a varied cultural and educational backgrounds; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; be able to work independently with limited direction; direct the maintenance of a variety of reports and files related to the nutrition service department; make accurate and independent decisions; perform other related duties as required; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Must possess the ability to assist in the planning, organizing, supervising and evaluating of the nutrition service programs offered in the district; conduct yearly verifications of Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications as required by state regulations; plan, organize and conduct nutrition education for students, parents and district staff; develop, recommend and implement new or revised policies, rules, regulations and procedures in the nutrition service operation; assist with the supervision and evaluation of Nutrition Service Supervisor II/III, Distribution Supervisor, Field Coordinator and Nutrition Service Administrator; successful candidate will assume the responsibilities for the nutrition services program in the absence of the Director of Nutrition Services.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or Food/Nutrition Services, or equivalent combination of education and experience; four years experience of an acceptable level and quality in nutrition service management preferred.
MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CLASS “C” CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE. MUST POSSESS OR BE ABLE TO OBTAIN A VALID SERV-SAFE CERTIFICATE. REGISTERED DIETITIAN,
A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION: Assist in the planning, coordinating and directing the district’s nutrition services operation in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Employees in this classification receive direction from the Director of Nutrition Services within a broad framework of policies and guidelines. This job class exercise responsibility for the supervision and overseeing of day-to-day operations and related activities of a large, multi-site nutrition services department. This job class requires technical and specialized education and work experience related to large-scale food preparation and meal service in a school district.
STARTING SALARY: $8,386.00 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
