Job Summary: The Director of Nutrition Services is responsible for the overall management and operations of the Food Service program. The Director of Nutrition Services will provide leadership and work with the district administration, building principals, and other school employees to ensure a well-maintained, healthy, and nutritious food program for students and staff. This position will participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of food service personnel.
Education/Certification Requirement:
- Eligible candidates for the director position at a medium SFA must have one of the following qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in a specific area***.
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with any academic major or area of concentration, and a SNA Level 4 Certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in any academic major and at least two years of relevant school nutrition experience.
- Associate’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in a specific area*** and at least two years of relevant school nutrition experience.
- (***Specific academic majors include Food and Nutrition, Food Service Management, Dietetics, Family and Consumer Science, Nutrition Education, Culinary Arts and Business.
Relevant food service experience may include managing food service operations at a healthcare facility, restaurant, civic/community organization, or other type of establishment; this may include documented volunteer or unpaid relevant food service experience.)
- Minnesota Department of Education Health Food Manager Certification within 45 days of employment, required.
Experience:
- Experience in employee supervision and program management - preferred.
- Minimum of three years of Food Services management experience - preferred.
Essential Skills:
- Supervisory experiences, which include delegating, managing and overseeing projects and staff.
- Knowledge of planning, forecasting, formulating and managing budgets.
- Knowledge in food production, food safety, purchasing, inventory and food preparation techniques and methods of a large food production operation.
- Knowledge of nutritional education and menu planning guidelines.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to food service requirements, finance and accounting practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required.
- Ability to implement and model the “Code of Conduct” and administer policies and procedures of the district.
- Ability to provide courteous customer service relations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, community members, and staff.
- Ability to collaborate with district administrators and various community groups concerning community nutrition projects, grants, etc. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
SALARY RANGE:
- $92,000 - $102,000 based on experience
