  • This position is responsible for the day-to-day oversight all of institutional/organizational partners, community, outreach and research of Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) a network designed to leverage and capitalize upon existing community partners, leaders, and knowledge holders, community resources, and local service delivery settings to enhance education, awareness, access, and inclusion of underserved communities in research and outreach designed to advance the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 and reduce disease disparities, including vaccine trials. This position will also work closely with the Principal Investigator to ensure efficient programmatic communication to support responsibilities and scopes of work associated with the subcontractor and consultants. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the overall goal of REACH, is to reduce health disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest burden of chronic disease such as hypertension, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity through culturally tailored interventions to address preventable risk behaviors, including tobacco use, poor nutrition, and physical inactivity.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Provide strategic vision and direction for increasing community participation within key groups in research and outreach designed to promote population health.
    • Identify and carry out key engagement goals, objectives and tactics in alignment with national network priorities.
    • Manage the creation and execution of an overall cohesive community engagement framework which meet the goals at the national level while ensuring a community-based approach.
    • Foster collaborative relationships with organizations to ensure engagement and partnership pathways to secure participation from all key communities outlined by the project.
    • Provide relevant skills-building training and/or tools to all partner organizations to assist them in carrying the project objectives.
    • Work with project colleagues, other staff and consultants to align engagement strategy with communication, research and vaccine acceptability strategy.
    • Establish ongoing community feedback mechanisms to increase responsiveness to community needs and to develop best practices.
    • Represent the organization at various events, on committees, at meetings, etc, as appropriate.
    • Manage assigned staff and students. Community Engagement Research Responsibilities
    • Inform the development of research plans by providing strategic input on formative research design for testing best practices for engagement among members representative of the target audience segments.
    • Inform the evaluation framework for community engagement tools and services.
    • Develop, implement, track, and report project community engagement performance metrics and measures.
    • Collaborate to evaluate and interpret the effectiveness of REACH by reviewing data, outlining implications, and developing recommendations.

    Minimum Qualifications
    EDUCATION:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Health Communication, or Strategic Communication from a regionally accredited institution


    EXPERIENCE:
    • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience and competencies in Community Engagement and Management. Ability to understand complex research (qualitative/quantitative) and distill findings into clear, strategic insights;
    • Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with cross functional teams;
    • Proven ability to quickly identify problems and solve them.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work with tight deadlines.
    • Microsoft Office proficiency including Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong communications implementation skills, detail, and deadline- oriented.
    • Strong project management, negotiation, strategic thinking, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to think creatively and provide innovative solutions to communication challenges/problems.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and team members.
    • Ability to travel may be required.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Public Health, Health Communication, or Strategic Communication and Community Engaged Research
