Pharmacy Director

  • The Director of Pharmacy shall be responsible for the overall operation, management, and strategic direction of UAB Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics Pharmacy. He/she shall report to the Chief Nursing Officer and will work closely with the Operations and Finance Officers as well. He/she performs a variety of duties, which require special skills and knowledge in the various aspects of hospital pharmacy. A primary function of this position is the establishment of policies and procedures; systems to direct and control pharmaceutical and related item acquisition and dispensing; staff scheduling to meet the needs of the hospital; compliance with CMS and TJC regulations; coordinating with the medical staff; pharmacy and therapeutics and drug utilization review with appropriate committees of the medical staff; adverse drug reaction monitoring; maintenance of a drug formulary system; annual budget preparation; and establishing and maintaining adequate control mechanisms for budget projections and pharmacy projects.
    Qualifications

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS

    • Current pharmacy license in the state of Alabama with no record of licensure revocation or suspension.
    • At least five years of hospital experience is preferred.
    • Background knowledge of pharmaceutics and their drugs and interactions.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, managerial, detail, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.
    • BLS certification is required by the end of the employee provisional period.
    • Must maintain required certifications.
    • Provides quality patient care for the needs of the populations served and age-specific groups as indicated: pediatric (>1 – 12 years), adolescent (>12 – 17 years), adult (>17 – 65 years), and geriatric (>65 years).
    • Complete appropriate continuing education courses according to the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy that are ACPE (Accreditation Counsel for Pharmacy Education) approved.
