    Naval Hospital Bremerton (NHB) is a United States Navy hospital located on Naval Station Bremerton in Bremerton, Washington.     Responsibilities

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Serves as a recognized expert to provide Occupational Medicine services to employees in various occupations, of various ages, and with various health issues.Independently performs occupational physical examinations of various types including: pre-placement, medical surveillance, medical qualification, disability retirement, fitness for duty, and any other special employee examinations that may be required or requested by authorized entities. Coordinates with facility and community resources to provide comprehensive work-related care to employees, taking into account factors such as new and/ or emerging procedures and techniques and the individual’s medical and occupational history, as well as information gained through diagnostic tests. Counsels' employees on workplace hazards and exam results. Notifies management of exam results and recommends appropriate work restrictions/accommodations. Applies new procedures in the evaluation and treatment of complex work-related cases and conducts research for the advancement of the Occupational Medicine program and for quality improvement. Interprets ancillary test results for evidence of possible occupational disease or confounding personal health conditions, including but not limited to, interpretation of complete blood counts, blood chemistry panels for renal, hepatic, toxic or metabolic conditions, pulmonary function tests, EKGs, plain film X-rays, and audiograms.Diagnoses and appropriately consults for follow-up evaluations for conditions discovered as a result of the occupational medical examinations. Evaluates and treats on-the-job illnesses and injuries and stabilizes and transfers those suffering from urgent or potentially life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Documents all examinations conducted and treatment provided, ensuring accuracy and adequacy of the health records. Participates in continuing education programs to update and maintain skills.2. Serves as member of the professional medical staff and provides advisory and consultative services on various meetings, committees, conferences, and/ or boards.Develops and oversees medical surveillance and medical qualification programs. Participates in committees/ meetings that evaluate the care provided to patients at the MTF, identifies opportunities to change the care delivered, advises on difficult or complex cases, and recommends corrective action when problems exist. Participates in performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and makes recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features. Conducts periodic worksite visits to evaluate and gain familiarity with workplace hazards and adequacy of controls.Performs other duties as assigned.

    Board Certified/Eligible

     

    Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

     

    Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
