Occupational Therapist plans and conducts individualized occupational therapy programs to help patients develop, regain, or maintain their ability to perform daily activities. Teaches patients skills/techniques and how to use adaptive equipment for participating in activities. Being an Occupational Therapist studies, evaluates, and records patients' activities and progress. May require a master's degree. Additionally, Occupational Therapist typically reports to a manager.     General Purpose:

    To plan, organize, develop and direct occupational therapy services in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

    Responsibilities:

    • Address patients’ aspects of performance to support engagement in occupations that affect health, well-being and life quality
    • Select and adapt the appropriate per case occupational therapy treatment model, method and approach to direct the process of interventions
    • Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
    • Teach patients new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
    • Assess patients’ home and other environments and advice on alterations consistent with their needs and capabilities
    • Recommend adaptive equipment and train in its use
    • Guide and educate family members and caregivers
    • Observe, note, and report on progress of long- and short-term treatment goals
    • Collect data and document processes followed
    • Regularly follow-up with patients
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    1. Must be a Licensed Occupational Therapist in good standing.
    2. Must meet all applicable federal and state licensure requirements.
    3. OR Must be in training to satisfactorily complete the requirements to become a Licensed Occupational Therapist
    4. Must be at least 18 years of age.
    5. Must be able to lift 50 pounds
    6. Professional behavior
    7. Completion of Licensed Occupational Therapy program and has passed board certification test.
    8. Ability to read and write in English.
    9. Ability to communicate with personnel and patients/residents.

    Working Conditions:

    • Stands, sits, bends, lifts, and walks throughout the facility.
    • Frequently pushing and pulling movements.
    • Subject to frequent interruptions.
    • Is involved with other personnel, physicians, patients, and families.
    • Communicates with Nursing personnel and other department employees.
    • May encounter angry or hostile employees and/or patients and family.
