  • SUMMARY:

    The Automation Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting automation and controls systems involving HMI (human machine interface), MMI (man-machine interface), PLCs (programmable logic controller), SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), and Robotic systems. Candidates for this position must have proven experience in HMI/MMI, PLC and robot troubleshooting with major industry software packages such as: Allen Bradley, Wonderware, Siemens, Automation Direct, Fanuc, ABB, Harmo, Whittmann, Sepro, etc. The AT must be able to design and build Robotic end of arm tooling (EOAT) for various product(s) and implement with machine integrations


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Works efficiently and with urgency to troubleshoot, install, and upgrade, all electrical, mechanical, and controls on all automation equipment. Designs and manufactures enhancements on all equipment to further efficient operation of equipment.
    • Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot all types of robots, PLC’s, motion controls (servo and stepper), variable speed drives, and vision applications with various communication protocols (Ethernet IP, Ethernet TCP, ModBus TCP, ModBus RTU, Profibus, DeviceNet, ControlNet).
    • Knowledgeable in basic electrical components such as motors, breaker, switch gears, transformers, relays, transistor, and diodes.
    • Knowledgeable with industrial sensors (e.g., photo eyes, proximity switches, read switches, etc.…)
    • Proven ability to interpret Electrical, Pneumatic and Hydraulic schematics and document changes.
    • Knowledge of industrial machine electrical panel building from engineering design and integration with existing equipment is highly desirable.
    • Orders, maintains, and systematically upgrades all spare parts and inventory. Maintain documents for all equipment problems for traceability.
    • Performs evaluations to enhance machine efficiency rates and control parameters with engineering.
    • Works to provide a safe and clean work environment in accordance to ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NFPA70E, etc.… standards.
    • Handles housekeeping controls, security and works to enhance work practices.
    • Additional duties include but not limited to vendor interface, mentoring of junior technicians and guidance through the overall engineering process plan.
    • He/she will be required to provide detailed documentation upon project completion for traceability, serviceability, warranty support, etc. (e.g., as-built drawing modifications, logic and communication documentation, BOMs, etc.,).


    OTHER FUNCTIONS

    • Completes all other duties as assigned.
    • Handles preventative maintenance inventory tracking.
    • Upgrades skills in automation and secondary equipment troubleshooting and repairs.

    Physical Requirements:

    • This position requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as constant mobility on a daily basis. Additionally, this position requires ability to move within/between departments and facilities.
    • This position requires the ability to review items closely and have color recognition.
    • This position requires pushing, pulling, lifting, moving and/or carrying up to 75 pounds.
    • This position requires the ability to twist and bend to reach into awkward spaces.
    • This position requires frequent exposure to fumes and odors.
    • This position requires hand and finger dexterity.
    • This position requires exposure on an infrequent basis to inclement weather conditions.


    What You Need To Succeed:

    • 5 years experience in electrical and automation maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.
    • 2 years experience with 3-phase motor (high and low voltage) repair
    • 2 years experience with servo motor repair
    • 2 years experience in the repair of robots such as: Ranger, Harmo, Wittman, KM, Sepro, ABB, and Fanuc.
    • 2 years experience with ladder logic
    • PLC troubleshooting and repair experience
