    Duties

    As the Supervisory Legal Assistant (Office Automation) in the Criminal Division, you will be responsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services. You will also be responsible for supervising the legal assistants and ensuring that the work assignments of the Criminal Division are accomplished. This position will be filled in either the Fresno or Bakersfield branch offices. Duties include (but are not limited to):

    Provides a variety of direct legal support assistance services to serviced AUSA staff.
    Examines, prepares and processes a variety of technical legal documents which are characteristically voluminous and complex in format.
    Supervises the Legal Assistants in the unit.
    Distributes work, monitors status of work in progress and ensures uniform high quality of work product.
    Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

    Travel Required: Occasional travel required.

    Qualifications
    GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level.

    Specialized experience for this grade level includes demonstrating the ability to provide leadership and guidance to subordinate staff; providing training, and distributing and monitoring work in progress. Additionally, experience includes legal work performed in any legal setting or office where the candidate has independently drafted and processed legal documents; performed legal research to verify citations using online legal resources; prepared complex legal documents and materials containing tables and graphs; and the ability to independently assemble exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents from file material.

    To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
