  • Cal OES is recruiting for an Emergency Management Coordinator/Instructor II for the Southern Region. Applicants only need to submit one application package to be considered for this position.
    Cal OES has advertised in San Luis Obispo County (JC 426561) and Orange County (JC 428154). The position will be primarily based out of our Southern Regional Emergency Operations Center in Orange County with frequent travel around Southern California.

    This position is within Cal OES’s California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI), the state’s premier training and exercise enterprise. CSTI offers more than a hundred course titles in the areas of emergency management, criminal justice and homeland security, hazardous materials, fire and rescue, disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery, and crisis communications. The CSTI State Exercise Operations Division designs and delivers tabletop, functional, and full-scale exercises, maintains the agency’s Integrated Preparedness Plan, and provides exercise support to other state agencies and local jurisdictions.

    Under the direction of the State Exercise Operations Division Chief, the Emergency Management Coordinator/Instructor II (EMC/I II) has lead responsibility for implementing, planning, and conducting all-hazards exercises and trainings in accordance with national standards – the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) and the DHS National Training and Education Division programs (NTED). The EMC/I II may be a course manager and instructor or oversee the project/work activities of others, including contracted instructors.

This directorate also includes the California Specialized Training Institute which provides exercise support and courses in emergency management, hazardous materials response, criminal justice/officer safety, fire & rescue, and crisis communications.

    In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
