    Department Overview

    Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers.

     

    Position Summary

    The Gas Qualification leadership team manages the technical requalification of all gas employees through a team of specialists. Technical requalification includes plastic fusion, weld qualifications, oversight of the Operator Qualifications (OQ) program, leaks, and measurement control with an emphasis on valves, regulation and corrosion. The leadership team works closely with the Gas Operations lines of business to ensure a high quality evaluation/qualification program is provided and that it is properly administered. Responsibilities also include monitoring, reporting and trending of qualification results and continuously seeking improvement opportunities. The leadership team ensures that safety is a priority and that all meet all safety requirements. They contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles. This position requires at least 60% travel.

     

     

    This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

     

    PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

     

    A reasonable salary range is:​

    Bay Area Minimum: $​126,000

    Bay Area Maximum: $​200,000

     

     

    Job Responsibilities

    • Directly supervise and mentor a team of specialists who perform initial and subsequent physical performance evaluations and administer written OQ tests and/or who perform initial and subsequent welding qualifications.
    • Works closely with the Gas Operation lines of business to ensure the quality administration of PG&E’s overall evaluation/qualification of gas transmission and distribution employees.
    • Finds solutions to issues and risks presented by team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
    • Ensures the evaluation/qualification processes are followed in full compliance with the OQ Program requirements.
    • Ensures the evaluation/qualification processes are followed in full compliance with the appropriate standards and procedures requirements.
    • Ensures close collaboration with other stakeholder groups within and outside of Gas Operations to make certain appropriate process recommendations are being implemented and maintained.
    • Maintains high level of understanding and knowledge of code required regulations, policies, standards, and other guidance documents.
    • Interfaces with relevant organizations depending on discipline, such as API, ASME, CGA, NACE, AGA, AWS, and other utilities to identify and implement best practices.
    • Maintains regular project and progress communication with management.
    • Manages department budget, assignments, and expense approvals.
    • Recruits/selects, communicates expectations, fosters employee engagement, coaches, develops, mentors, recognizes and rewards employees in order to drive performance and results. Manages professional employees who are subject matter experts in various gas technical craft areas.

     

    Qualifications

    Minimum:

    • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
    • 5 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in utility operations, construction, and/or engineering
    • 40% travel required

    Desired:

    • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
    • Supervisory or lead experience, preferably in gas maintenance or operations Project management experience.
