CNC Machine Operator

  • Produce machine parts and be able to perform CNC thread machine set-ups, start up, perform routine maintenance, operate safely all thread machine equipment, and perform parts inspections for entire Premium Thread product line.

    • Experience operating CNC Machines with Fanuc controls such as lathes and milling machines in a heavy manufacturing environment
    • Knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.
    • Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
    • Must be able to operate a forklift and lifting devices for movement of parts.
    • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
    • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
    • Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules.
    • Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose calculating material machining.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Under minimal direction of a supervisor, responsible for quality parts produced on CNC machines such as, but not limited to lathes and milling machines.
    • Responsible for loading parts, proving tapes, operating controls, setting offsets, advanced edits, deburring, and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements.
    • Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
    • Measures and marks dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.
    • Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to insure quality of production. Reports all machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
    • Operates a forklift and lifting devices for movement of parts.
    • Assists in the solution of complex plant operating problems and/or cost reduction projects.
    • Assists in training other employees
    • Communicates with supervisor, engineers, production control, quality, and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
    • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
    • Within the scope of the job requirements, will be required to adhere and comply with state and federal law, the Company ISO Quality Program and procedures, Company policies and Safety and Environmental Regulations.
    • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
    • Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an advance understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • In addition to requirements listed for an Operator, the individual shall have a minimum of 3-year experience on CNC threading machines and be able to perform CNC thread machine set-ups, start up, perform routine maintenance, operate safely all thread machine equipment, and perform parts inspections for entire Premium Thread product line. Candidate shall have demonstrated sufficient skills to be able to supervise/train Trainees, Class A, and Class B Machine Operators on Premium thread CNC Thread machine equipment.
    • Be able to Read and Manufacture per Blueprints, determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece,
    • Sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
    • Must be knowledgeable with FANUC Controls (minimum 3 years)
    • Select tooling and complete setups with no supervision.
    • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed.
    • Perform various machining operations requiring multiple setups.
    • Evaluate machining requirements and complete work with no supervision.
    • Solve minor problems with little or no supervision.
    • Identify possible problems before beginning production.
    • Full understanding of CNC programs.
    • Capable of troubleshooting most machine errors and PC problems

    The Trade and Skilled is responsible for threading, machining, and assembling, metal products. They may access raw metal/supplies/equipment/product, handle/operate power and hand tools, move equipment/supplies/product, use templates and reference written materials. The Trade and Skilled may climb to access and stand on elevated platforms, steps, stairs and elevated work areas. Trade and Skilled personnel are not required to lift, push, pull, or handle objects greater than 50 pounds. They are encouraged to request assistance or use material handling equipment to complete tasks where lifting, pushing, pulling, of greater than 50 pounds is required. This position may be exposed to areas of extreme weather/temperature conditions outdoors.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Machining with Fanuc controls.
    • Experience operating CNC Machines.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills (collaborative, supportive, ability to negotiate to obtain objectives)
    • Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an advance understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions
    • Ability to identify problems and implement solutions
    • Ability to be a Proactive, Self-motivated, Self-directed Team Player
