Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room | OR *CRISIS RATE*
The prestigious facility in New Britain, CT is seeking experienced Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurses available for 13-week contract assignments (local or travel), with the potential for extension. A MINIMUM of 2 years of OR Circulator / Operating Room experience is required.
Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Compensation (36 or 40 hours):
- Travel Rate: $3,550 to $4,000 /week (*rate varies depending on location & hours)
- Local Rate: $91 to $95 /hour ($3,150 to $3,800 /week)
- Paid weekly, including health benefits
Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Assignment Details:
- OR / Operating Room RN
- (3) 12-hour, 7a-7p or (4) 10-hour, 9a to 7p shifts
- Some On-Call weekend requirements
- EPIC experience is strongly preferred
- 13 weeks with a high potential for extension
- ASAP start date
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current unencumbered Connecticut state RN license
- Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room RN experience
- Current ACLS, BLS Certification
Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Job Summary:
Operating room registered nurses (OR RN) serve as key members of the surgical team of healthcare professionals. They provide surgical patient care by assessing, planning, and implementing the nursing care patients receive before, during, and after surgery. As an OR travel registered nurse, you will be responsible for managing the care of patients requiring a surgical procedure that requires moderate to complex assessments, interventions, and levels of nursing vigilance.
Position Responsibilities:
Operating Room Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, the responsibilities of OR Nurses include (but are not limited to):
- Consults and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans
- Conducts pre- and post-operative education
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team
- Takes and monitors patients’ vital signs
- Ensures that operating on the correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed
- Provides basic, bedside care
- Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments by the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse
- Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol
- Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, promptly, in the appropriate format, and on the appropriate forms
- Preps operating room for patient/procedure
- Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology
- Monitors patients’ physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum
- Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by a physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of medication, and rehabilitation
- Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on the assignment setting
During the surgical procedure, OR Nurses can take the role of:
Circulating Nurse, with the following additional duties:
- Assists in positioning, and responding to the comfort/safety of patient
- Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens
- Observes and enforce strict standards of asepsis
- Observes, checks, and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly
- Handles patient documentation
- Inventories all items both pre-and post-surgery
Scrub Nurse, with the following additional duties:
- Selects and handles instruments and supplies used for the operation, passing them to the surgeon
- Inventories all items both pre-and post-surgery
Nurses First Assist, with the following additional duties:
- Delivers direct surgical care by assisting physicians
- Helps control bleeding
- Provides wound exposure
- Sutures patients after the surgery
